“The Promise” was for the Holy Spirit to be “Your One Teacher” prophetically

Please follow the BLOG Etiquette to stay on topic and pass the moderator’s check.  Bold, underlined text below = future links to the BLOG pages.

That’s what the early history of the Church recorded: “They were ALL filled with the Holy Spirit and/coupled beginning to speak in other tongues/languages as the Spirit gave them utterance” (a).  Later on the Jewish believers with Peter were “amazed that the grace-gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out on the Gentiles, for they akouo heard/listened-to-understand them speaking in tongues/languages and/coupled extolling God, . . . for they have received the Holy Spirit in the same manner as we have” (b) – see Spirit-Promise.  This “filling” isn’t a one-time event throughout the early history of the Church – the same Christians get Spirit-baptized again and again (c), just as the apostle Paul was (d). In fact, Paul’s strong urgings using Greek imperative for being “completely-filled with all the abundant-fullness of God by the means/instrument of the Spirit” (e), are to be routine, lifestyle habits as indicated by Greek present participles. <Notes> a) Acts 2:4, b) Acts 10:44-47, c) Acts 2:2, 4, 4:8, 31, 13:52, d) Acts 9:17, 13:9, e) Ephesians 3:19, 5:18.

Furthermore, Paul confidently says to Christians: “God, who gives His Holy Spirit to you . . . Now concerning brotherly love, you have absolutely in fact no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have already been taught by God to unconditionally-love one another” (a).  Paul clearly indicates God’s Holy Spirit of “unconditional-love” (b) to be the “One Teacher” (c), who being the Holy Spirit also of “self-control” (d), teaches them to “not [unlovingly] defraud their brethren in this matter” (e) by giving in “to passionate lust like godless people” instead of “controlling one’s body” – this is the context of Paul saying they already have “been taught by God to unconditionally-love one another.” <Notes> a) 1 Thessalonians 4:8-9, b) Galatians 5:22, c) Matthew 23:8 – see Teach One Another – BT10, d) Galatians 5:23, e) going after other men’s wives.

John also says thatunconditional-love” is “the logos message or “commandment” you have had or heard from the beginning [of their Christian walk]” (a).  Paul also says: “They have become callous…sensual, greedy, … impure.  But that is not the manner you understood/learned (b) the Christ (c) – assuming that you have akouo heard/listened-to-understand Him and/coupled were taught by the means of Him, seeing that [singular] Truth is in/by this [Christ] Jesus, to put off [like dirty clothes] your old (d) self . . . and put on [like fresh clean clothes] the new (e) self….in true righteousness and holiness” (f).  <Notes> a) 1 John 2:7, 24, 3:11; 2 John 1:5-6, b) manthano: heard to be informed of, cf. ‘learned from the Father’ to be ‘taught by God’ in John 6:45, ‘learning from Christ’ in Matthew 11:29, and learning by prophecy in 1 Corinthians 14:31 – see Prophetic Rhema, c) means Anointed One, d) worn out, outdated, useless – the same word used for “old covenant,” e) kainos: fresh, completely different-in-kind, unprecedented, sharing nothing with its predecessors, unique, and superior – the same word for the New Covenant, f) Ephesians 4:20-22.

Therefore, “The [singular] Truth” isn’t gnosis info-knowledge you get from sunesis ‘connect-the-dots’ understanding of the bible, but being taught directly from Jesus who said, “I am The Truth” (a), but now during the Church Age being taught directly by “the Spirit of Christ” (b), “the Spirit of the Lord” (c), for “the Spirit is the One who testifies/bear witness, because the Spirit is The Truth” (d), “the Spirit of The Truth . . . He dwells WITH/beside you (as Christ while on earth) but shall actually be IN you (after the resurrection)” (e). <Notes> a) John 14:6, b) Romans 8:9; Philippians 1:19; 1 Peter 1:11, c) Acts 5:9, 8:39; 2 Corinthians 3:17-18, d) 1 John 5:6, e) John 14:17.

This is how we should be understanding how to be unconditionally-loving, righteousness, and holy!  Christians simply are to “have the mind of Christ” (a), and this is how we will think Christ’s thoughts and feel His feelings! “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (b), so “to set the mind on the Spirit is zoe genuine-life and peace” for “The Spirit of God . . will give zoe genuine-life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (c). The answer to knowing God and His will isn’t scripture or more of it, it’s more of the Holy Spirit<Notes> a) 1 Corinthians 2:16; Philippians 2:5, b) 2 Corinthians 3:17, c) Romans 8:5, 11.

As Christian musicians, when are we going to stop relying on things like bibles and men teachers like other religions, when the New Covenant promises the “One is Your Teacher” Holy Spirit of Christ so that “you are not to call any of you ‘teacher’ because you are all brethren” and “because you have the Anointing of the Holy One (Christ), you have absolutely in fact no need that any man teach you because the Anointing teaches you everything!”  When will we believe Jesus and the Apostle John, or the Apostle Paul who said we were to be “ALL taught by God” citing the OT prophecy of Isaiah, or the Apostle Peter citing the OT prophecy of Joel who on the first sermon of the Church said that during these last days Church age, the way God will speak to us is by prophecy to all His men and women servants?  When will we stop reading, studying, and memorizing bible verses like the scribes and Pharisees futilely did, and instead watch and listen in proseuche conversational-prayer for God to teach us by His Holy Spirit when that was “the promise” of the New Covenant?

When are we going to abandon gnosis head-knowledge and embrace eido mental ‘seeing’ to perceive and genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge thru direct contact with God?  Until we abandon the stoicheion rudimentary ‘abc’ fundamentals of “reading, writing, and arithmetic” to learn from God, we will not learn by the “Spirit of discernment to distinguish good from evil that requires practice” – see New Covenant Ways – BT16.  God’s “wisdom and understanding” is not gained from studying old books but through revelation of the Holy Spirit as we “draw near/beside Him” so that “He will draw near/beside us and be a Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him out?”  When are we going to abandon “diligently searching the scriptures supposing in them we will take hold of zoe genuine-life everlasting” when Jesus said “they simply testify about Me so that you would Come to Me for zoe genuine-life, but you refuse to do so!”  Is that what He will say to much of the Church that has spent more time with their bibles than they have ever have with Him in prayer?  Will He say to them, “I know what you have done ‘in my name,’ but I never really knew you?”

The huge difference between knowing scripture and seeing God

Please follow the BLOG Etiquette to stay on topic and pass the moderator’s check.  Bold, underlined text below = future links to the BLOG pages.

We’ve seen that the OT prophets who communicated directly with God did so through eido mentally ‘seeing’ perception/knowledge, something integral to the New Covenant promise now for every Christian (a), as realized by the Holy Spirit’s grace-gift of prophecy, even by visions and dreams (b), especially occurring during routine, patiently-waiting, watching, listening, worshipful, proseuche conversational-prayer.  This ‘seeing’ isn’t reading a bible verse so many times that when you close your eyes, you can still “see” them in your mind’s eye.  That is called “creative imagery or visualization” – a standard humanistic tool for improving memory, but also used a lot in New Age circles. Like visualization, sunesis ‘connect-the-dots’ rational learning can also include horao “observing/perceiving-knowing/discerning” or skopeo “fixing your attention on something” or theoreo “beholding something with particular interest” or noeo “observing, pondering, or considering with the nous mind.” All of these rational, cognitive processes are important to acquire gnosis info-knowledge about something or someone. That’s what the Jewish scribes and Pharisees were experts at – scriptural knowledge about God!  Bible students are like sports fans – they can quote you all the statistics about someone without ever personally knowing the people!  <Notes> a) Jeremiah 31:34, b) Acts 2:17-18.

The Jewish bible-expert scribes even changed their commandment to “Love God with all their “inner man” (a) or “heart” (b) . . . soul . . . strength” from Deuteronomy 6:5 as Jesus quoted it back to the scribes to answer their trick questions (c) – Jesus never taught the OT commandments!  They snuck in “all your mind (d)” at the end.  Maybe this got tagged on the more modern Greek versions, because although “in OT Hebrew physiology, the heart was considered the seat of the mind,” the Greeks wanted to somehow distinguish the heart from the mind – see Identity (e).  Look how the Jewish scribe rephrased what Jesus had said from using the word dianoia (d), which did include thinking and feeling, changing it to sunesis, which only included rational ‘connect-the-dots’ thinking: “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said…love with all your sunesis mental ‘connect-the-dots’ understanding” (f)!  These book-worms zeroed in on what mattered most to them, but that’s not the narrow focus Jesus was talking about at all!  It’s not about the head-knowledge but heartfelt experience! <Notes> a) Hebrew: lebab, b) Greek: kardia, c) Matthew 22:37; Mark 12:30; Luke 10:27, d) dianoia: as a faculty for deep thinking, imagination, feeling, and desiring, e) Philippians 4:7; Revelation 2:23, f) Mark 11:33.

However Jesus said, “their eyes are closed, lest they eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know with their eyes and/coupled akouo hear/listen-to-understand with their ears and/coupled biyn/sunesis connect-the-dots to understand with their lebab/kardia inner-man/heart and turn-back/return/revert/repent and I would heal them” (a). As a Jew Jesus, “seeing, hearing, and understanding” are all internal processes, and He isn’t really distinguishing them as the Greeks would like to. <Notes> a) Matthew 13:15; John 12:40 citing Isaiah 6:10; cf. Acts 28:27.

Paul also knows it takes more than sunesis ‘connect-to-dots’ rational understanding, so he proseuchomai conversationally-prayed for Christians to “have the eyes of their hearts enlightened so that you may eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know what is the hope to which He has called you, what are the riches of His glorious inheritance, what is the immeasurable greatness of His enabling-power toward us who have trusting-relying-faith” (a). You can study this verse until you are blue in the face and never really get it until God shows it to your heart!  1 John 5:20 says, “We have already eido mentally ‘seen’ to perceive/know, with ongoing results, that the Son of God is ongoingly coming (as the Holy Spirit) and/coupled has already given, with ongoing results, us a dianoia mind (b) that we may/might experientially, relationally ginosko know Him who is The Truth, and/coupled we are in The Truth, in His Son Jesus Christ, this is the True God and zoe genuine-life everlasting.” That’s the dianoia mind or sunesis understanding a Christian is to have – directly from Jesus, not indirectly through more scripture like the Jews approached God! <Notes> a) Ephesians 1:18-19, b) as a faculty for deep thinking, imagination, feeling, and desiring.

So much of Christian teaching has encouraged rational, cognitive learning and expanding bible study to now include what they erroneously call, “New Testament scripture,” though graphe was never applied to NT writings until a Catholic theologian Tertullian 175 years after Christ died in 208 AD started to teach this, despite opposition by other well-known Church Fathers – another false teaching by the Catholic Church!  But Jesus had this to say about the bible experts of His day: “You actually eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know neither the scriptures (a) nor the enabling-power of God” (b) and “I experientially, relationally ginosko have known that you do not have the unconditional-love of God within you” (c). Furthermore, Paul said, “They have a zeal for God, but not down-from/according-to genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge” (d), and includes them in “the world [that] did not experientially, relationally ginosko know God thru-the-realizing-channel-of wisdom” (e). <Notes> a) John 20:9, b) Mark 12:24, c) John 5:42, d) Romans 10:2, e) 1 Corinthians 1:21.

Bible students, like myself, have a lot of accumulated sunesis ‘connect-the-dots’ understanding and gnosis info-knowledge – see Bible Info, but because the “wisedom and understanding” of this world, even of the religions of the Jews and Greeks, led them nowhere, the NT writers rarely use either of these 2 words positively.  Instead they stress that we must be more than a fanatical fan, collecting information about God to better understand Him and His will.  Jesus said in John 10:14-15, “I am the Good Shepherd. I actually, ongoingly, experientially, relationally ginosko know Mine [sheep] and/coupled Mine [sheep] actually, ongoingly, experientially, relationally ginosko know Me, just as the Father experientially, relationally ginosko knows Me and/coupled experientially, relationally ginosko know the Father.”  Jesus and the Father aren’t reading books about each other!

Sure Jesus taught if they akouo “hear/listen-to-understand the logos message of the Kingdom but don’t ongoingly sunesis ‘connect-the-dots’ to understand it [by the heart], the evil one (devil, Satan) comes and snatches what was sown in his heart” (a). Throughout the NT, we see that NOT understanding [by the heart] Christ’s words and actions resulted in: bewilderment, astonishment, confusion, terror, denial, or hardening of hearts.  However, the “connecting of the dots” has to go deeper than just the head and it’s certainly got to stick: Only those “ongoingly holding fast/retaining the logos message in an honest/sincere and good/useful heart” will “bear fruit with patient endurance” (b). In many way, the greatest distance between 2 points is between the head and the heart – I know it is for me!  <Notes> a) Matthew 13:19, b) Luke 8:11-15.

“The Promise” of the New Covenant was to ‘see’ God

Please follow the BLOG Etiquette to stay on topic and pass the moderator’s check.  Bold, underlined text below = future links to the BLOG pages.

For the subject of discernment, see New Covenant Ways – BT16.  We already introduced the “seeing” aspect of knowledge in the last BLOG (a) that the Prophetic-Rhema page discusses further concerning visions and dreams.  Even uneducated, little children can do this as the Least Among You – BT7 BLOG speaks of.  Let’s look into this deeper here.  <Notes> a) horao observing/perceiving-knowing/discerning in 1 John 3:6; katoptrizomai “gazing with wide-open eyes as we behold” in 2 Corinthians 3:18; aphorao “routinely turning to observing/perceiving-knowing/discerning toward another” Hebrews 12:2.

“The Promise” of the completely different-in-kind New Covenant was NOT for more graphe scripture of gramma letters to read, study, memorize, or debate but ‘seeing’ God.  Gramma is the “grammar” of alphabet, words, phrases, sentences, paragraphs, or even portions/categories of writings.  The bible uses it sometimes of the “portion” called “the Torah Law of conditional-favor” as God’s “first covenant” or “old covenant,” which is based on obedience to 613 entole commandments that are “specific, universally-binding instructions, prescriptions, precepts, charges, orders, or injunctions.”  However, “The Promise” doesn’t come from God’s grapho handwriting of dogma as “doctrines, propositions, decrees, laws, or ordinances,” nor is it gramma “portions” collected into tablets, scrolls, or books called graphe “scripture.”

The Jews had all this for 800 years through a prescribed, structured, authoritative hierarchy of human teachers “from the greatest to the least of them” – Moses to his brother Aaron to his sons to the Levite priests to Jewish men to their women to their children and finally down to servants and Gentiles. Did any of this really work for them? The Jewish bible-expert scribes, religious teacher-leader Pharisees and Sadducees killed every prophet ever given to them and then finished with their own Messiah (a)!  <Notes> a) Matthew 23:37; Luke 11:47, 13:34; Acts 7:52; Romans 11:3; 1 Thessalonians 2:15.

After 800 years of reading, studying, memorizing, debating, and teaching the scripture – “diligently searching the scripture because you suppose that in them you will ongoingly have/hold/possess zoe genuine-life everlasting” (a), all these “wise and understanding ones” (b) did NOT experientially, relationally ginosko know or eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know God any more than the Gentile pagans did nor have the unconditional-love of God within them (c).  If Christians insist on doing the same things as them and somehow expect different results, isn’t that the definition of “insanity” according to Einstein?  <Notes> a) John 5:39, b) Matthew 11:25; Luke 10:21; James 3:13, c) John 5:42, 8:55; Galatians 4:8; 1 Corinthians 1:21; 1 Thessalonians 4:5; Titus 1:6; 1 John 4:8.

The term graphe scripture was never applied to anything but the collection of OT gramma letters by any Jew or Christian church leader until 208 AD, when in desperation in argumentation against the Monarchian Praxeas and Bishop Marcion of Sinope, who the Catholic Church had branded as heretics, the Latin theologian Tertullian first applied the term graphe scripture to a very loose collection of Christian writings at that time, and only some of these eventually ended up in the New Testament (NT).  Boy, that sure is a good reason to call the NT “scripture!”  According to, there were at least 139 Christian writings circulating throughout the Church by 208 AD, and there was little agreement as to what was even authoritative.  Many Church fathers considered any of our current NT writings as purely “devotional” but certainly not “scripture” – see Wikipedia’s Development of the New Testament Canon.

However, Jesus criticized these Jews who so prized their scriptures: “You neither in possibility eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know the [whole of] scriptures nor the dunamis enabling-power of God” (a) concerning the resurrection of the dead – this “power” being from the Holy Spirit (b).  Jesus also accused them: “By the ear you shall actually [physically] hear but never sunesis ‘connect-the-dots’ to understand, and by the eye you shall actually be [physically] seeing but never eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know. For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed” (c), and furthermore, “You eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know neither Me nor my Father. If you had eido mentally ‘seen’ to perceive/know Me, you would have eido mentally ‘seen’ to perceive/know My Father also” (d).  Evidently their collection of ancient manuscripts, which we know many were lost, all their schools of interpreting and teaching the bible for over 800 years, all their commentaries on the bible with all their incredible scholarship, didn’t help them much at all! Are we going to get different results by doing the same things? <Notes> a) Matthew 22:29; Mark 12:24, b) Romans 1:4; Philippians 3:10, c) Matthew 13:14-15; Mark 4:12; Luke 8:10; Acts 28:26- 27; Romans 11:8 – all citing Isaiah 6:9-10, d) John 8:19.

Eido mentally ‘seeing’ to perceive/know is a common term describing a prophet’s invisioning visions (horao horasis) and dreams (enupniazomai: night visions).  Horasis comes from the verb horao that means generally to observe with the eyes, implying attention, concern, or heed, sometimes being acquainted through experience, but often emphasizing a mentally ‘seeing’ to perceive or comprehend with a discerning or ‘weighing-in’ mind (a).  Some things that the NT disciples blepo physically saw, many OT prophesied about them via revelation could only long to eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know (b), having only searched/carefully-inquired-about them (c), having only been horao observed/perceived-known/discerned’ by the forefathers (d), like Abraham wanting to horao observe/perceive-know/discern Christ’s coming and he did eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know it (e).  Compare this to optanomai: gaze in awe with wide-open eyes upon (f) or katoptrizo that is kataptron mirror + a derivative of optanomai together meaning to gaze in awe with wide-open eyes as in a mirror (g). <Notes> a) Revelation 4:3, 9:17; Matthew 9:30; Luke 24:31; Matthew 20:33; Mark 8:25; Jeremiah 6:16; Numbers 12:6; Job 7:14, 20:8, 33:15; Daniel 1:17, 2:28, 4:5, 9, 7:1, b) Luke 10:24, c) 1 Peter 1:10-12, d) Hebrews 11:13, e) John 8:56, f) Matthew 5:8; John 16:22; Romans 15:21; Acts 13:31; 1 John 3:2, g) only used in 1 Corinthians 3:18.

This supernatural vision is promised to ALL OF US for “now we have received . . . the Spirit who is from God that we might eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know the things freely given us from God” (a), even having “prophetic enabling-power to eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know ALL mysteries and ALL gnosis info-knowledge” (b).  This is NOT gnosis book-knowledge from reading and studying!  This is by prophetic ‘seeing’ particularly by “prophecy, horasis visions, and dreams” (c). Maybe the very reason the “godless nations/people” are not “in control of their own body” but are in “the passion of their own lust” is because they “do not eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know God” (d) – see Knowledge – BT9.  <Notes> a) 1 Corinthians 2:11-12, b) 1 Corinthians 13:2, c) Acts 2:17-19, citing Joes 2:28-29, d) 1 Thessalonians 4:4-5, cf. Galatians 4:8.

This eido mental ‘seeing’ to perceive/know is how Timothy came to trusting-relying-faith in Christ through the prophetic scriptures (a). This is also the way Paul describes his focus on Christ (b).  Paul’s proseuche conversational-prayer is that Christians will have the eyes of their hearts enlightened as a result of receiving the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation by the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of Christ (e).  The Father eido mentally ‘sees’ to perceive/know the mind of His own Spirit (f).  It’s no wonder that God promises that NOW ALL God’s people would eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know Him” under the completely different-in-kind New Covenant, but NOW this knowledge absolutely will no longer be taught by any men “from the greatest to the least” as in the old covenant, but “taught by God” (g) NOW “from the least to the greatest” (h). <Notes> a) 2 Timothy 3:14-16, b) 1 Corinthians 2:2, c) Acts 2:17-19, citing Joes 2:28-29, d) 1 Thessalonians 4:4-5, cf. Galatians 4:8, e) Ephesians 1:18, f) Romans 8:27, g) John 6:45; 1 Thessalonians 4:9; Isaiah 54:13, h) Hebrews 8:11 citing Jeremiah 31:34.

It’s very misleading for many bibles to simply translate eido as “knowing or understanding,” because it has very little to do with logical, rational processing or comprehension like sunesis ‘connect-the-dots’ understanding requires if you read and study the bible, but had more to do with ‘seeing’ mental images in order to “perceive/know,” something that God can easily place in anybody’s mind, even the uneducated “least among you!”

If you search carefully, you find that nowhere in the NT is there a hint of more gramma letters collected into graphe scripture to be given by God. Instead, “The Promise” for both Jew and Gentile-Christians was that “they will all be taught by God,” first directly by Jesus, the living Logos Communicator (a), and then after His resurrection, by Christ’s Spirit, the “One Teacher” (b).  At Pentecost’s outpouring of Christ’s Spirit, the first precedent-setting sermon of the Church Age was by Peter who said in Acts 2:15-18:  “This is what was spoken through the prophet Joel . . . I will pour out My Spirit . . . your sons and daughters shall actually prophesy, your men shall actually invision visions (c) and dream dreams – and [summing this up] they shall actually prophesy.<Notes> a) John 6:45 citing Isaiah 54:13 or Jeremiah 31:34, b) Matthew 23:8 – see Teach One Another – BT10 , c) horao horasis: generally to observe with the eyes, implying attention, concern, or heed, sometimes being acquainted through experience, but often emphasizing a perceiving inward ‘seeing’ of the mind to comprehend with a discerning or ‘weighing-in’ mind.  This is very similar to optanomai: gaze in awe with wide-open eyes upon used in Matthew 5:8; John 16:22; Romans 15:21; Acts 13:31; 1 John 3:2 or katoptrizo that is kataptron mirror + a derivative of optanomai = gaze in awe with wide-open eyes as in a mirror used only in 1 Corinthians 3:18.

There is absolutely no mention that God’s plan was to continue to include reading, studying, memorizing, teaching, and debating OT scripture or that God would write more gramma letters of it.  Instead we have Jesus earlier saying this is ‘The Promise’ of My Father I am sending upon you . . . when you are clothed with enabling-power” (a), and to “wait for ‘The Promise’ of the Father you have heard from Me” and “you will receive enabling-power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you . . and/coupled you will be My witnesses/testifiers . . . to the ends of the earth/ages” (b), just as Jesus promised in John 15:26, “The Spirit of The Truth, the Parakletos (‘c), whom I will send to you, He will bear witness/testify about Me.” <Notes> a) Luke 24:49, b) Acts 1:4, 8, c) Close-beside’ caller, summoner, or inviter; helper, succorer, or assistant; encouraging teacher, counselor, comforter, or consoler; defense-attorney, judicial-advocate, or court-intercessor.

Earlier in John 4:10-14, 24, Jesus said this is “the grace-gift of God . . . I will give you living water . . . a spring of water welling up to zoe genuine-life (a) everlasting . . . God is Spirit, and so those who worship (b) Him must worship by the means of [singular] Spirit and/coupled [singular] Truth,” and also: “Whoever has trusting-relying-faith in Me . . . ‘out of his heart will flow rivers of living water,’ which Jesus said about the Spirit” that would be given after “Christ was glorified” (c). This started to happen at Pentecost, when Peter says, this is “from the Father, ‘The Promise’ of the Holy Spirit, He has poured out that you are seeing and hearing” (d), and this is “the grace-gift of the Holy Spirit, for This Promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off” (e). Somehow much of the Church has lost sight of WHO “The Promise” was to be and settled for more WHATs of scripture!  <Notes> a) ‘the real-thing’ as it God originally intended it, b) proskuneo: reverently kiss the hand [as a dog does] towards, c) John 7:38-39, d) Acts 2:33, e) Acts 2:38-39.

As Christian musicians, “The Promise” prophesied in the OT for the NT sure wasn’t more gramma writings collected into graphe scripture – the Catholic Church was the first in 208 AD to declare any NT writings as “scripture” despite the objections of previous bishops!  No, “The Promise” was instead the Holy Spirit’s enabling-power to variously ‘see’ God and His will, using words like eido, horao, horasis, aphorao, optanomai, and katoptrizomai for observing, beholding, mentally ‘seeing’ to perceive, discerning in order to genuinely, experientially, relationally epiginosko know.  The first sermon for the entire Church age tells us God’s plan of communicating to His people NOW is for ALL of His men and women servants to prophesy via visions and dreams!  There is not mention of anything else!  Why are we adding to God’s plans?

If the Jews perfected bible-study for 800 years and God said it got them no closer to actually knowing God than the Gentiles, isn’t it insane to think that Christians are going to do better still “supposing that in the scriptures we may take hold of zoe genuine-life everlasting?”  Are we also going to miss their whole point – to have a direct, personal relationship with the Messiah?  Once we have the person, are we also going to “ongoingly refuse to Come to Me,” but instead go back to our bible-study?  Even if Jesus said “the secrets of kingdom are kept hidden from these ‘wise and understanding’ ones?”  Why are going back to learning ABOUT God from the WHATs of paper & letters when we have the WHO of the Parakletos “One Teacher” so that we are all “taught by God?”

Sin (harmatia) simply means to “miss the mark or target.”  Traditionally from the OT, this has meant to “miss the target of obeying God’s commandments,” thus to “transgress the Torah Law of conditional-favor,” but Paul in the New Testament (NT) now defines sin as “whatever does not proceed from trusting-relying-faith” (a), just as so many Old Testament (OT) terms are redefined by Jesus and the NT writers for the completely different-in-kind New Covenant.  If you look deeper into the meaning of pistis trusting-relying-faith, you will find that this can only occur when you are experientially, relationally ginosko knowing God in fellowship with Him.  It’s a relationship word!  Therefore, Paul is saying that sin is indeed “missing the target” of having this intimate fellowship kind-of knowledge with God.  Peter says that NOT being “koinonia partakers in the divine nature in order to escape” results in “corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire” (b).  Sin is a result of not having this divine-nature “godliness,” for this only comes “dia thru-the-realizing-channel-of genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of God.”  Thus “divine-nature godliness” flows through the canal of this intimate partaking-relationship knowledge.  But what how does it get from God to us to defeat sin?  It flows “kata down-from/according-to His divine dunamis enabling-power, which we know from so many other places in the NT is God’s Holy Spirit – see the Spirit-Power page.  Peter refers to “sanctification/holiness of/belonging-to [singular] Spirit” (c).  God’s entire plan of salvation is about restoring/reconciling the intimate fellowship that He enjoyed with Adam and Eve in the garden, when God would walk through the garden and routinely talk with them (d).  <Notes> a) Romans 14:23, b) 2 Peter 1:3-4, c) 1 Peter 1:2, d) Genesis 3:8.

Paul talks in Romans 1:21-28 about the fall of mankind into mental depravity leading to every type of physical depravity, exactly because “although they having experientially, relationally ginosko known God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks to Him. . . exchanging The Truth about God for a lie, worshipping and serving created things instead of the Creator . . . and since they did absolutely not in fact investigate-to-prove-genuine (a) to have/hold/possess God in/by/with genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge, God gave them over (b) to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.”  That’s exactly my point!  If you don’t “wholeheartedly seek God in order to find and hold by the means/instrument of intimately knowing” Him, then God will simply let you go on doing your own thing toward all kinds of sin!  <Notes> a) dokimazo: test, examine, or discern to demonstrate or prove something is acceptable, genuine, approved, good, and approved.  For more about discernment – see New Covenant Ways – BT16 , b) paradidomi:  give or turn over from close-beside, personally deliver.

I and many others have asked, “Why doesn’t God refuse to let go of us?  Why doesn’t He force us to hold on and stay close-beside Him?”  Doesn’t He say “I will never leave or forsake you” (a).  Because this would violate our free will and simply make us slaves of God, much like the angels.  The members of the Godhead have free will, but they said they created us “in Our image, after Our likeness” (b).  How could they then take our free will away from us?  <Notes> a) Hebrews 13:5, b) Genesis 1:26, c) 1 John 4:8, 16, d) according to the Greek scholars of Galatians 5:22-23, the list of nouns act as adjective-nouns further describing the singular-fruit of the unconditional-love just as Paul does in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

But more importantly this would violate His essentially infinite unconditionally-loving nature (a), which infinite gentleness is a key characteristic or “flavor” of (b). God is infinitely gentle just as He is “without measure” (c) in all His qualities (d), just as Jesus is infinitely gentle (e), just as is His Spirit (f).  That’s the reason we should be as followers of Christ (g) especially if you are going to be in ministry (h) – see the Be Gentle With Yourself as You Learn video.  <Notes> a) 1 John 4:8, 16, b) according to the Greek scholars of Galatians 5:22-23, the list of nouns act as adjective-nouns further describing the singular-fruit of the unconditional-love just as Paul does in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, c) John 3:34, d) 2 Samuel 22:36; Psalms 18:35, e) Jeremiah 11:19; Matthew 11:29; 2 Corinthians 10:1, f) Galatians 5:22-23, 6:1; 1 Corinthians 4:21, g) Ephesians 4:2; Titus 3:2; James 3:17; 1 Peter 2:18, 3:4, 15, h) 1 Thessalonians 2:7; 1 Timothy 3:3, 6:11; 2 Timothy 2:25.

Furthermore Paul says, the “godless nations/people” are NOT “in control of their own bodies” but are in “the passion of their own lust,” linking/coupling this to his next statement in 1 Thessalonians 4:4-5: “they have NOT already, with ongoing results, eido mentally ‘seen’ to perceive/know God.”  They had their religious books but that didn’t help them either!  They didn’t even worship the One true God!

But even knowing ABOUT the One true God through the OT scriptures didn’t help the Jews either. In Hosea 4:1-2, God accused the Jews of “not having da’ath/epignosis knowledge of Him” and links this by progressive poetic stanzas to “they did evil without bounds (b), worshipped idols, without faithfulness, without steadfast unconditional-love, abandoning the Lord, and provoked Him to anger and judgment, causing Him to turn them over to be plundered by their enemies.” One things leads to another! <Notes> a) daath: perceptive, discerning, awareness, prophetic insight, moral and understanding or wisdom, skillfulness in workmanship or creativity, knowledge; epignosis:  genuine, experiential, relational knowledge, b) swearing, lying, murder, stealing, adultery, etc.

Like the Jews did, if you think that “Knowing God” has anything to do with trying hard to keep the commandments of the Torah Law of conditional-favor, think again based on what Paul says in an example of the commandment not to covet: “But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the Torah Law of conditional-favor, sin lies dead/lifeless” (a). Therefore, “the enabling-power of sin is the Torah Law of conditional-favor” (b). It’s called “the Torah Law of conditional-favor of sin and death” (c) for a reason!  Trying harder just won’t work. Haven’t all of us experienced Paul’s struggle with sin: “For we know the Torah Law of conditional-favor is Spirit-kind-of, but I am flesh-kind-of, sold under sin.  For I do not understand my own actions.  For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. . . . For I have the desire to do what is right, but the ability to carry it out.  For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing” (d).  <Notes> a) Roman 7:8, b) 1 Corinthians 15:56, c) Romans 8:2, d) Romans 7:14-19.

We have to come to the same conclusion Paul came to – we are not going to win this battle!  “O Wretched man that I am!  Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God – thru-the-realizing-channel-of Jesus Christ our Lord” (a)!  How we are “measuring up” to God’s Torah Law of conditional-favor of holiness is what most Christians think of when you ask them: “How are doing with God?”  They list of the things they are or are NOT doing – the are stuck in “doing,” which is the same as “works,” as if they were still under the old covenant.  Very few people will answer, “Lately, I’m feeling my koinonia intimate relationship with the Lord is ________.”  This is so sad, because this is the essence of the completely different-in-kind New Covenant!  <Notes> a) Romans 7:24-25.

John really nails it: “If we say we have koinonia fellowship (a) with Him while we routinely walk [all around] in darkness, we lie and do not practice The Truth” (b), and “absolutely no one who routinely meno remains-connected-to/dwells in Him (Jesus) ongoingly sins (c); absolutely no one who routinely sins has already, with ongoing results, either horao observed/perceived-known/discerned Him or already experientially, relationally ginosko known, with ongoing results, Him.  Little children, let no one deceive you.  Whoever routinely does righteousness is righteous, as He is righteous.  Whoever routinely sins is of the devil, for the devil has been ongoingly sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to definitively/wholly destroy the works of the devil.  No one having already been born/begotten, with ongoing results, of God ongoingly sins, for God’s [singular] sperma Seed meno remains-connected-to/dwells in him; and he is not ongoingly able to ongoingly sin, because he has already been, with ongoing results, born/begotten of God (d).”  See A 11-21-2021 Vision about Meno abiding.  However, later John says:  “We know that ‘whosoever’ has already been, with ongoing results, born/begotten of God ongoingly sins not, but instead The One (e) who was definitively/wholly born/begotten of God ongoingly tereo watches carefully to maintain/keep him (the ‘whosoever’) and/thus the wicked one (Satan) ongoingly attaches/adheres (f) himself NOT to him (the ‘whosoever’)” (g).  <Notes> a) koinonia: communication, communion, partnership, b) 1 John 1:6, c) see John 15:4-7, d) 1 John 3:6-9, e) Jesus:  John 1:17; Acts 13:33; Hebrews 1:5, 5:5, f) haptomai: touches in way that so influences the thing that it changes, modifies, impacts, or alters it, g) 1 John 5:18.

Routine lifestyle sin simply proves that you are not remaining-connected-to/dwelling with Jesus. That’s exactly what Jesus warned of in John 15:4-5, “As the branch absolutely cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it meno remains-connect-to/dwells in the vine, neither can you, unless you meno remain-connect-to/dwell in Me . . . for apart from Me you absolutely cannot do anything.” That’s why Paul also warns so-called Christians practicing sin to NOT be deceived – they simply won’t make it to heaven (a), even warning Christians that “bad company can ruin them too” (b). <Notes> a) 1 Corinthians 6:9; Galatians 5:21, 6:7, b) 1 Corinthians 15:32-34.

Clearly the answer to breaking the cycle of sin isn’t trying harder to do the commandments of the Torah Law of conditional-favor, because this will just cause sin to explode, but only “horao observing/perceiving-knowing/discerning Jesus or experientially, relationally ginosko knowing Him” (a).  Compare this to katoptrizomai gazing with wide-open eyes as we behold the Lord, [this] transforming us’ (b).  Compare this to aphorao ‘routinely observing/perceiving-knowing/discerning toward’ Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our trusting-relying-faith” (c) – see also Prophetic-Rhema for discussion about visions and dreams.  Even uneducated, little children can do this – see Least Among You – BT7.  We will also explore this “seeing” knowledge more in the next BLOG. <Notes> a) 1 John 3:6, b) 2 Corinthians 3:18, c) Hebrews 12:2.

We must embrace what Jesus said in John 15:4-5,Meno remain-connected-to/dwell in Me . . .the branch can NOT bear fruit by itself – only if it meno remains-connected-to/dwells in the vine, neither can you, meno remain-connected-to/dwell in Me. I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever meno remains-connected-to/dwell in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do absolutely nothing.”

As Christian musicians, “falling short of the target of God’s glory” is really the definition of sin per Romans 3:23 but so is “anything not of trusting-relying-faith.”  Every time we are not in intimate relationship with God, our trust in Him and His protective Spirit-covering is at risk.  Then sin from Satan, the demonic realm, the world, and our flesh – aroused by the commandments of the Old Testament – will quickly try to enslave us, take control, and have dominion over us.  If you don’t “wholeheartedly seek God in order to find and hold by the means/instrument of intimately knowing Him, then God will simply let go of His hold on you” to follow our own free-will towards all kinds of mental and physical depravity!  His infinite gentleness will not force us against our own will.  What looks like God’s judgment of sin here on earth, is really letting us go when we pull away from Him.  Without His protective hold, Satan’s hoards come in to “steal, destroy, and kill.”  We get what we deserve – we reap what we have sown.

If we want to see habitual sin brought under control by the Holy Spirit, there are absolutely NO rules, ordinances, precepts, regulations, commandments, or disciplines that can help us “curb the indulgence of the flesh, no matter how wise they seem,” Paul says!  Every religion of “works” on the planet promises this, whether Jewish or Gentile!  The Old Testament “Law of sin and death”  will not help us, but neither will 1500 commandments the internet says are in the New Testament!  There is only 1 thing that works – intimate koinonia fellowship, epignosis experiential, relational knowledge to partake in the divine nature of holiness!  Only God working in us can make us “godly.”  Only the Holy Spirit working in us can make us “holy.”  A Holy God is in heaven; we are stuck on earth.  For His kingdom and will to come to earth IN us, we must “routinely ask, seek, and knock for the good gift of the Holy Spirit.”  This takes only 1 thing from us – “obedience of trusting-relying-faith – “the only thing that counts is trusting-relying-faith working thru-the-realizing-channel-of unconditional-love.”  Faith and Love are the only 2 entole, official, universally-binding commandments in the New Covenant and they really are just 2 parts of 1 commandment of God per 1 John 3:23!

Our whole Christian life comes down to 1 thing – “obedience of trusting-relying-faith, for the righteous ones shall live by faith to faith – one step of faith to another.”  We must get Spirit-baptized or “filled to completion with the abundant-fullness of God by the means/instrument of the Spirit” over and over – drinking from the “river of living water” so we “no longer thirst,” eating “our daily bread” of Christ so that we “no longer hunger.”  If we don’t, we will look to the world or flesh to satisfy our “hunger and thirst” and we will “miss the target of an intimate relationship with God, His will for us,” and the result is sin!  If we meno remain-connected-to/dwell in/by/with the Vine of Christ, we will indeed bear much fruit for the glory of God, but every time we disconnect, we dry up, wither, and produce nothing!

Now the real question is how do I “remain-connected-to/dwell in Christ so that the anointing teaches us ALL things so we have absolutely in fact no need that any man teach us” as 1 John 2:27 promises?  Again the answer is so simple that even uneducated, mentally and physically handicapped, and poor “least among us” can easily do it!  Only 1 thing is required of us – A.S.K.Ask until it is given, Seek until you find, Knock until the door is opened.  This is exactly why proseuchomai conversational-praying or perserchomai drawing near/beside to God is where we do deesis supplication and then wait patiently while we watch and listen for God “to draw near/beside to us and be a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him out!”  Yes, this takes surrender/submission to those “obedient steps of faith” but anybody can do this if they really want to – even “the least among us.”

Everything else we need for “genuine-life and godliness” is IN Christ and flows down from heaven to earth dia thru-the-realizing-channel-of or en pneumati – by the means/instrument of the Holy Spirit.  Then we become God’s workmanship and He gets all the credit so that nobody can boast!  And so we can “tremble with reverential awe as we then exercise-out so great a salvation.”

The New Covenant calls us to go deeper than book knowledge

Please follow the BLOG Etiquette to stay on topic and pass the moderator’s check.  Bold, underlined text below = future links to the BLOG pages.

The New Covenant wants us to go deeper than a book for intimate knowledge to make it thus genuine. There were so many Jewish and Gentile competitors to Christianity who said they knew God, but they absolutely did NOT!  Jesus said to bible experts trying to trick him, “You err, because in possibility you eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know neither the scriptures nor the power of God” (a).  Elsewhere Jesus said to these Jews: “You absolutely in fact have already [with lasting results] eido mentally ‘seen’ to perceive/know neither Me nor My Father. If you had already [once-and-for-all] eido mentally ‘seen’ to perceive/know Me, you would have already [once-and-for-all] eido mentally ‘seen’ to perceive/know My Father also” (b).  Jesus says they were lying hypocrites:  “You say, ‘He is our God.’  But you absolutely in fact have not experientially, relationally ginosko known [with ongoing effects] Him.  However, I have [with ongoing effects] mentally ‘seen’ to perceive/know Him.  But if I were to say that I absolutely in fact have not [with ongoing effects] mentally ‘seen’ to perceive/know Him, I would be a liar like you” (c).  John tells Christians:  “Whoever says ‘I have experientially, relationally ginosko known [with ongoing effects] Him’ but does in possibility not keep/watch/guard His commandments is a liar” (d).  <Notes> a) Matthew 22:29; Mark 12:24, b) John 8:19, c) John 8:54-55, d) 1 John 2:4 – in context, especially 1 John 3:23, the only 2 commandments in mind here are trusting-relying-faith in Christ and unconditional-love for one another.

Gentiles also have this problem, as Paul acknowledges:  “For some have no knowledge (a) of God. I say this to your shame” (b).  Peter echoes this:  “the foolishness of ignorant (a) men” (c).  Paul implies that the Gentiles’ sin, as we shall see in Knowledge – BT9, is the result of not knowing God:  “the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not in possibility eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know God” (d). <Notes> a) agnosia = a as a negative prefix + gnosis knowledge, b) 1 Corinthians 15:34, c) 1 Peter 2:15, d) 1 Thessalonians 4:5.

Because Jews and Gentiles often use the verb ginosko or noun gnosis so inaccurately, as we’ve seen above, Paul often used a more intensive verb epiginosko or noun epignosis to further emphasize what God really means:  “some women (a) were always learning (b) but never able to arrive at the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of The Truth (c) . . . so these [men] also oppose The Truth (c), men (a) corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding The trusting-relying-Faith” (d). <Notes> a) women or the anthropos men who were coming into these households to “take captive weak women burdened with sin,” b) manthano: hearing to be informed or understand – the women were certainly being deceived by these men teachers, but these men who “opposed The Truth” of Jesus and His gospel were in turn deceived by the men who taught them – scribes and Pharisees.  Certainly, the Jewish scribes and Pharisees were ever learning, but Jesus said in John 5:39-40 that these “diligent scripture searchers/studiers refused to come to Him for zoe genuine-life that they [erroneously] supposed was in the scriptures,” c) The Truth throughout the NT is Jesus per John 14:6, His Spirit per John 16:13, and His gospel message per Galatians 2:5 – see The Truth page for many more verses, d) 2 Timothy 3:7-8.

If you do an extensive study of the noun epignosis, you will find it is used for having a more intense, richer or fuller or more thorough, more precise or accurate or clearer, genuine form of intimate, experiential, progressive ginosko knowledge, which in itself is completely different-in-kind than simply gnosis info-knowledge that Jew and Gentiles religions relish!  You can collect lots of gnosis info-knowledge about God through bible study, but because this is NOT through direct, experientially, relationally ginosko knowing God, it can NOT be authenticated as genuine, thus the terms epignosis and epiginosko.

Epignosis is only used 20 times in the NT, but the verb form epiginosko is used 39 times. This kind of knowing is what the completely different-in-kind chadash/kainos New Covenant now promises through Christ, which is completely different-in-kind than anything the old covenant was ever able to deliver. As we mentioned above that will be explored more in the next Knowledge-BT9 BLOG, Paul says sinfulness is actually the result of not having this genuine fellowship with God (a).  Knowing the OT commandments of God only brings us into an intimate knowing of sin – not God, which then actually increases sin (b). “Zeal” for the Torah Law of conditional-favor from obedience to commandments results in being ignorant (d) of God’s genuine righteousness (c). <Notes> a) Romans 1:28, b) Romans 3:20, 5:20, c) Romans 10:2-4, d) agnoeoa [negative prefix] + ginosko experiential, relational knowing.

The Greek Septuagint OT often translates the Hebrew yada with the Greek words ginosko or even epiginosko, to show that God has always desired this genuine, experiential, relational knowledge, even though He says of the bible-expert, teacher-leaders: “watchmen: blind guides leading the blind, blind fools, without yada/ginosko knowledge, shepherds without sunesis ‘connect-the-dots’ understanding, all turned to their own ways, for their own gain, drunkards, hypocrites” (a). <Notes> a) Isaiah 6:10, 56:10; Jeremiah 2:8.

As a whole, God accused the Israelites of NOT having yada/ginosko knowledge of Him, certainly not genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge, because they lacked the eido mental ‘seeing’ to perceive/know vision of the prophets, and so the people “did evil without bounds (a), worshipped idols, were without faithfulness, were without steadfast unconditional-love, abandoned the Lord, and provoked Him to anger and judgment, causing Him to turn them over to be plundered by their enemies” (b). Yet God says “But let him who boast, boast in this: that he suniemi ‘connects-the-dots’ to understand and/coupled experientially, relationally yada/ginosko knows Me” (c).  Throughout the bible, we see God ‘connect’ true “understanding” to this fellowship, experiential knowing of Him by the means/instrument of the Spirit. The OT says those who yada/ginosko know the Lord shall indeed batach, elpizo trust/hope and seek-out (d) Him (e); this is how they will “be caused to yada/gnorizo know the way to go” (f). <Notes> a) swearing, lying, murder, stealing, adultery, etc., b) Jeremiah 5:28, c) Jeremiah 9:24, d) darash/ekzeteo: frequently pursue, diligently search, crave, and worship, e) Psalms 9:10, f) Psalms 143:8.

The OT prophesies, even by personifying “Wisdom and Understanding” in Proverbs 2:1-5, “My son, if you welcome/take-hold-of My directly-spoken/heard prophetic rhema word, My [singular] entole [official, binding] commandment, hiding/treasuring/storing up para alongside/close-beside you . . . ” Here the scholars correctly see “hiding/treasuring” as clarifying “welcoming/taking-hold-of” and “[singular] commandment” as clarifying “[singular] spoken/heard prophetic rhema word.” None of this refers to written scriptural commandments, but “treasuring up that 1 thing you have just heard directly from God!”

How do you do this? “By inclining your ear to hear/understand (a) to sophia Wisdom, paraballo throwing/casting alongside your heart (b) toward/reaching sunesis ‘connect-the-dots’ Understanding.”  The 2nd phrase clarifies the 1st, combining to mean: “purposefully hearing with your heart to understand with wisdom.”  <Notes> a) hupo + akouo:  by the means of hearing/listening to understand, b) the Jews view the mind, heart, and inner-being as the same, not separated as the Greeks do.

To explain this further Proverbs continues: “Indeed, if you cry out for (a) The Sophia Wisdom and/coupled The sunesis Understanding [both personified] – moreover, definitively/wholly giving your voice (b) for [singular] sunesis Understanding – definitively/wholly seeking (c) [singular] Great Insight (d) . . . ”  Here “Great Insight” clarifies “The Wisdom,” but again, both this “discernment and comprehension” are NOT simply cognitive processes of rational man, but are here divinely personified – they are not in books but are part of the Godhead!  For more about discernment – see New Covenant Ways – BT16<Notes> a) summon, a Hebraism for supplication, b) Hebrew idiom for raising/lifting the voice to carry further, indicating significance, another Hebraism for supplication, c) zeteo: searching diligently in order to find, investigate, desire/crave, aim/strive after, d) sensual and intellectual perception, discernment, see Philippians 1:9.

But what kind of seeking?  Proverbs continues: “If you baqash/zeteo diligently seek (a) HER like silver and/coupled chaphas/exereuneo diligently search out (b) HER like hidden treasure, THEN you will actually suniemi ‘connect-the-dots’ to understand the fear (c) of the Lord and/coupled continually-in-process (d) find/obtain/perceive/discover the genuine, experiential, relational da’ath/epignosis knowledge of God.”  This is a progressive knowledge you discover through relationship, not by cramming your head before a test!  This was obviously written to all the bible scholars of the day that thought they could really know God through understanding their book!  However, did you catch the relentless pursuit required for the genuine article? <Notes> a) baqash:  seek to find, secure, seek the face/person/audience of, desire/demand, require/exact, ask/request; zeteo: searching diligently in order to find, investigate, desire/crave, aim/strive after, b) chaphas in the Qal form: search for, think-out/devise, search/test; exereuneo:  search wholly out from, carefully search out with all diligence in an investigative, examining manner of the facts, c) Hebraism: reverential, worshipful awe and respect of, d) imperfect tense.

As we’ve seen from the proseuche conversational-prayer page, the common elements of listening with your mind/heart/inner-being and desperately crying out for and seeking God are all here!  A key statement for our lives was said by Jesus in John 17:3, “This ongoingly IS the everlasting zoe genuine-life:  that they might ongoingly, experientially, relationally ginosko know You the only true God and/coupled Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” Again, this has absolutely nothing to do with gnosis info-knowledge acquired from reading, studying, searching, categorizing, and memorizing scriptures or learning this from human teachers.  If it were, the bible-expert scribes and Pharisees who “diligently searched/studied the scriptures supposing that in them they would take hold of zoe genuine-life” would have found what they were looking for!  But they didn’t because Jesus was “The zoe genuine-life” (a) standing right in front of the, “yet they ongoingly refused to Come to Me for zoe genuine-life (b)! <Notes> a) John 14:6, b) John 5:39-40.

However, Paul says of religious knowledge:  “This gnosis info-knowledge actually, ongoingly puffs up with pride/conceit (a)” (b), and in context he was particularly referring to the Jews’ following of scripture, particularly about rules concerning “foods offered to idols.”  Paul tries to turn them away from following rules taught from a book to simply following “Christ’s Law:  Bearing one another’s burdens, having unconditional-love” (c), which he says “concerning this, you have absolutely in fact no need for anyone to write to you, for you are actually, ongoingly being taught by God to unconditionally-love one another” (d). That’s why Paul said in Philippians 3:7-8 that he “has counted everything” he had before, which he thought was to his advantage (e), “as a damaging loss on account of Christ, indeed everything . . . ongoingly counting them as feces-laden garbage so that I might acquire Christ . . . that I might experientially, relationally ginosko know Him and/coupled the Spirit’s power of His resurrection.”  Paul’s isn’t theoretically speaking but relaying personal experience! <Notes> a) phusioo: inflates, swells into pride, arrogance, and conceit, b) 1 Corinthians 8:1, c) Galatians 6:2; 1 Corinthians 9:21, d) 1 Thessalonians 4:9, cf. 1 John 2:27 “you have absolutely no need for anyone to teach you”, e) Paul was once a zealous leader-teacher-expert of the OT.

To be one of Christ’s ‘sheep’ you must have personal relationship with Him – it doesn’t matter if you are a bible scholar or do great things for God or not.  Jesus said, “My sheep akouo hear/listen-to-understand My Voice, and/coupled I ongoingly, experientially, relationally ginosko know them and they ongoingly follow Me” (a).  It is implied in an intimate relationship, if one party is thus knowing the other, that this is reciprocal!  You may even “prophesy, cast out demons, and do mighty works in Christ’s name/authority,” thinking that this is “doing the will of My Father who is in heaven” – after all, don’t churches and bible colleges teach you how important it is to ‘work’ for God?  I’ve sure heard a lot of sermons and lectures on this!  <Notes> a) John 10:27.

But obedience to the commandments of the Torah Law of conditional-favor are called “dead/lifeless/useless works” (a), yet I know so many people saying we need to post the 10 commandments in all public places and get back to honoring and doing them!  Have they even read the New Testament?  But to the so-called Christian workers, Jesus will say: “I never definitively/wholly experientially, relationally ginosko knew you – depart from Me, you workers – of Lawlessness!” (b). Yes, they may be trying to obey the OT commandments and even doing work for Jesus, but if they don’t really know Jesus they are law-breakers!  Why?  Because the purpose of the Law was to prepare the Jews to BE in a genuine relationship with their Messiah Jesus, who is the only One that kept or could keep the Law.  Without Jesus in you to cleanse you from your sin, you are a condemned “Law-breaker.” The purpose of the Law was not to DO commandments, it was to be delivered from the commandments by the Messiah’s perfect sacrifice!  If you don’t really know Jesus, then you have broken the very purpose of the Law!  A lot of “important” people in Christendom are in for a rude awakening! <Notes> a) Hebrews 9:14, b) Matthew 7:21-24.

In John 5:38-40, Jesus told the bible gnosis students of His days, who prided themselves in knowing all about God’s written Word: “You do absolutely in fact not have God’s logos Word dwelling in you, for you do absolutely in fact not have trusting-relying-faith in the One whom He has sent. You ongoingly diligently search/examine/study the graphe scriptures [consisting of gramma letters to create a logos message] because you ongoingly think/suppose that in/by them zoe genuine-life everlasting you ongoingly hold in hand/possess; but it is they that routinely are bearing witness/testifying all throughout about Me, yet you are ongoingly absolutely not intending/willing to Come To Me that you might ongoingly hold by the hand/possess The zoe genuine-life.”  Hmm, seem that many Christians have the same approach!  Many jokingly nickname seminaries, “cemeteries” for a reason!

All of the scriptures simply had one purpose – to testify about Jesus and the zoe genuine-life that He would give so that the Jews would come to their Messiah when He came. Now that He had arrived, the purpose of scripture was fulfilled, but the bible students would rather have their bible than the person it testifies about!  Jesus is essentially saying they were “looking for life in all the wrong places!”  Jesus said, “For all the Prophets and the Torah Law of conditional-favor – the 2 most common divisions of scripture – prophesied UNTIL (a) John [the Baptist] appeared” (b), and elsewhere Jesus added “[but] SINCE that time (c) the ‘Great News’ of the kingdom of God is preached and everyone is forcing their way into it” (d).  As was said earlier, it was actually “Lawlessness” to reject the purpose of the Law – to “Come to Me for zoe genuine-life,” to have a saving relationship with the Messiah!  <Notes> a) heos: continued until or as far as, b) Matthew 11:13, c) apo tote, d) Luke 16:16.

Are so many Christian bible students making the same mistake as the Jewish bible students?  I know that I have!  None of the 5 bible colleges or churches that pounded bible study into me ever showed me this verse!  What turned Mark Virkler of 4 Keys to Hearing God’s Voice around was this verse, because after so many years in Christian ministry he had become no different than a scribe or Pharisee, having everything nicely organized in “theological boxes” but really lacking “the power of godliness” that is the supernatural, enabling-power of the Holy Spirit through a prophetic-rhema word connection with Jesus!  His book is a great testimony!

Barnabas’ “Book of Hebrews,” written in much higher Greek than Paul writes in, deals extensively with this temptation within the early Jewish-Christian community, teachers of the Law trying to convince them to go back to the supposed security of obedience to the Torah Law of conditional-favor to be more righteous before God.  We’ve seen Paul describe his personal stuggle and freedom from the OT “Law of sin and death” in Romans 7:24-25, and the “how-to” is further described in Romans 8 – the freedom of the Holy Spirit’s continued indwelling, filling/baptism, and leading of the Christian!  It’s terrible how many study bibles and commentaries try to skirt around Paul’s struggle with sin as a new Jewish-Christian, because like Paul, Peter, James, and other Jews originally did, they wanted to hold onto the OT, insisting we keep the Torah Law of conditional-favor and its rules and rituals of “cleanness,” or at least those they “cherry pick” as still applicable – like so many Christians do today: maybe the 10 on stone, or the 2 greatest of unconditionally-loving God and unconditionally-loving your neighbor, or maybe all the non-sacrificial commandments.

It’s absolutely ridiculous how so many religious people “cherry-pick” commandments to follow, and often the lowest hanging fruit!  Remember in Matthew 23:23 how Jesus called the Pharisees “Hypocrits!  You tithe mint and dill and cumin (a), and have neglected the weightier matters of the Law:  justice and mercy and faithfulness (b).”  Paul had to also openly condemn Peter as a “hypocrite” for treating the Gentile-Christians as “unclean” by not eating with them in front of other Jewish legalistic friends of James who were from the Circumcision Party (c).  <Notes> a) Luke 11:42 “rue and every herb”, b) Luke 11:42 “neglected justice and the love of God”, c) Galatians 2:11-14.

But just as Paul finally realized as a Jewish-Christian, these other Jews also needed to get set free from the Law and move into the life of the Holy Spirit!  That’s what Paul says: “Ongoingly walk/live by the means of the Spirit, and/coupled/thus you will absolutely not me in possibility or ou in fact finish (a) the desires/cravings of [singular] flesh, . . . for the desires/cravings of the flesh and the Spirit are opposed (b) to each other” (c).  The answer isn’t more commandments of the Torah Law of conditional-favor, but “[I urge you to] . . . routinely be filled-completely (d) by the means of the Spirit” (e) for the enabling-power (f) to “walk by the means of the Spirit!” <Notes> a) execute, accomplish, finish, end, b) kata antikeimai: set against or oppositely, as adversaries, c) Galatians 5:16-17, d) See Spirit-Baptism, e) Ephesians 5:18, f) see Spirit-Power.

That’s exactly why Paul desperately proseuchomai conversationally-prays for Christians in Ephesians 1:17-18 that “the Father of glory, may give/grant you the Spirit of (a) wisdom and/coupled of (a) revelation.”  They already have the Spirit living within them, but they need the “wisdom and revelation” that the Spirit possesses!  You can’t be filled with more of a person, but you can be filled with more of their actions!  How do I get the Spirit’s “wisdom and revelation?”  Paul explains “In/by/with the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of Him.” But how do we have this kind of fellowship with an unseeable God?  Paul explains:  “Having already had [with ongoing results] the eyes of your hearts enlightened in order that you may already have [with ongoing results] mentally ‘seen’ to perceive/know (eido).”  This is the way of prophetic vision to really know God – see also Prophetic-Rhema! <Notes> a) genitive of possession – the Spirit possesses true wisdom and revelation.

We ALSO need to desperately proseuchomai conversationally-pray that God opens the “eyes of our mind/heart/inner-being” for supernatural visions and dreams to see prophetic-rhema words or what they would represent – a picture is worth a 1000 words!  This “enlightenment” should have started at our conversion and the effects are certainly meant to continue – this is the force of the perfect tense.  This “influence” should impact future experiences.  The perfect tense is often used as a motivation to repeat the experience routinely!

But to eido ‘see’ or perceive/know what?  Paul continues in Ephesians 1:18-19 “The hope to which God has already called them – that is, the riches of His glory, His inheritance in the saints – and/moreover what [is] the immeasurable greatness of God’s enabling-power toward/reaching us who routinely have trusting-relying-faith.”  This is how we get joyful expectation (hope) and amazing Spirit-power in us!  But our “action items” are conversational-prayer with is trusting-relying-faith!  As complex as this “revelation” of Paul’s is, if you proseuchomai conversationally-prayed as much as he did during his 3 years in Arabia and Damascus in Galatians 1:17-18 before a short stint in Jerusalem, then back out to Syria and Cilicia, finally returning to Jerusalem after 14 years, you probably would have just as many or more revelations – Paul did all this before his actually missionary journeys began!

In Colossians 1:8-11 Paul proseuchomai conversationally-prays as we should: “We have not ceased to proseuchomai conversationally-pray for you, asking that you may be completely-filled with the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of His will by the means/instrument of every Spirit-kind of sophia wisdom and of sunesis ‘connect-the-dots’ understanding, in order to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him:  bearing fruit in every good work and/coupled increasing in the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of God, being strengthened with all enabling-power.”  Again, God’s will isn’t supposed to be learned via bible study!  Notice that “fruit” is linked to “genuine knowledge of God” which is related to “genuine knowledge of God’s will that is by the means/instrument of the ‘wisdom and understanding’ that the Spirit possesses – not that of the scribes and Pharisee teachers!

Peter also understands this:  “His divine enabling-power has already granted to us all things that pertain to zoe genuine-life and godliness – this thru-the-realizing-channel-of the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of Him – . . . by the means of which He has granted to us His precious and very great promises in order that thru-the-realizing-channel-of them you may become partakers of the divine nature” (a).  Paul echoes this:  Their “new man” is actually “being routinely renewed (b) towards/at the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge down-from/according-to the image of Him that created him” – this being Jesus Christ (c), telling us how this happens:  “Be ongoingly renewed (b) by the means of the Spirit belonging to your mind” (d).  This is similar to:  “Be ongoingly transformed by the renewal of your mind in order to discern what is the will of God” (e).  We don’t need more bible study to determine God’s will or to renew our mind, but more of the Spirit’s-power, and this only comes by intimate fellowship with God to acquire genuine ‘wisdom and understanding.” <Notes> a) 2 Peter 1:3-4, b) renovated, freshened, c) Colossians 3:9-10, d) Ephesians 4:23, e) Romans 12:2.

The Truth [that] shall actually sets you free” from practicing sin in John 8:32 isn’t bible gnosis knowledge, although I’ve seen a lot of preachers hold up a bible and tell you this!  In context, “The Truth” to be “experientially, ginosko known through a relationship with a person.” How can you do this with information, even the content of the logos gospel message?  You can’t!  That’s because verse 36 tells us “The Truth” is actually “the Son [that] actually set you free – then you shall actually be free indeed.”  Yet, I’ve rarely heard these preachers say this!

Clearly, gnosis knowledge aboutThe Truth” acquired through human effort just won’t do – it takes Jesus by His Spirit’s revelation through an experiential, relational ginosko knowledge with God to make this genuine, which is exactly the emphasis of epignosis and epiginosko. This is what Jesus meant by “If you meno remain-connected/dwell in My logos message . . . ” (a), but this is the same as meno remaining-connected to/dwelling in Jesus, who is the living logos Word/Message of God (b).  See A 11-21-2021 Vision about Meno abiding. <Notes> a) John 8:31, b) John 1:1; 1 John 1:1; Hebrews 4:12; 1 Peter 1:23.

This is all clearly identical to Jesus’ words in John 15:4-10: “I strongly urge you to meno remain-connected-to/dwell in/by/with Me and I [shall] in you. As a branch [is] absolutely not able to bear fruit separated/off [by] itself unless it meno remains-connected-to/dwells in the vine, absolutely in fact neither in this same manner [can] you in this case [if you are] not ongoingly meno remaining-connected-to/dwelling in/by/with Me.  I am the Vine; you are branches. The one routinely meno remaining-connected-to/dwelling in/by/with Me, and I in him, it is he that bears much fruit, for apart/separate from/without Me you can are able to do absolutely not a [single] thing. . . . . If you meno remain-connected-to/dwell in/by/with Me and My directly-spoken/heard prophetic rhema words remain/dwell in you, then ask whatever you want, and it shall actually be done for you.”  Can you see Christ’s emphasis by the number of times He uses the word meno – it’s a key word in all of John’s letters (a).  This intimate, experiential relation is the key to everything in the Christian life!  The Lord showed me in a long vision what this “Abiding in/by/with Christ” is all about.  For more about “in/by/with” see Bible Info. <Notes> a) 1 John 2:6, 10, 14, 17, 24, 27-28, 3:6, 9, 14, 17, 24, 4:12-16; 2 John 1:2, 9.

“Jesus loves me this I know because the bible tells me so” is the furthest thing from John’s mind: “By this we ongoingly, experientially, relationally ginosko know that we meno remain-connected-to/dwell in/by/with Him (the Father) and He in/by/with us, because He has given us ek out of/from His Spirit” (a). John’s logos gospel message of The Truth is completely different-in-kind than modern “bible-anity” that says we need to read, study, memorize, categorize and organize with concordances and systematic theologies every single teaching of Christ and all the NT writers in order to be strong and obedient Christians, to really experience the unconditional-love of God!  Every competing religion can say, “because my ‘bible’ tells me so,” but saying “Only our bible is valid” doesn’t make Christianity the ONLY valid religion.  John doesn’t say this!  He isn’t even saying, “Because I or someone else wrote about the indwelling Holy Spirit, then you can know that “Jesus loves you.” No!  He said we can “know that God loves us because God as given us OUT OF/FROM His Spirit.” It’s what comes out of/from the Holy Spirit that dwells within Christians that is the real proof of God living in us!  It is the Spirit’s power that creates the Spirit’s fruit/nature within us that is the proof (b). How can Christians have “a hope that we are not ashamed of” when challenged by an unbelieving, even hostile, world?  “Hope does not put us to shame, because God’s unconditional-love has been poured into our hearts dia thru-the-realizing-channel-of the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (c).  This is not theoretical but a description of a common experience in the 1st century.  Is it common for you? <Notes> a) 1 John 4:13, b) Galatians 5:22-23, c) Romans 5:5.

As Christian musicians, do we want to be stuck with only a book like the Jews of the Old Testament or people of other religions and philosophies?  Or will we move onto the promise of the completely different-in-kind New Covenant to ALL be prophets, to ALL have visions and dreams, to ALL eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know God and His will?  That’s what the New Testament says the Old Testament promised!  Are we going to settle with gnosis knowledge from diagnostically understanding a book, or are we going to through our trusting-relying-faith approach God in the name/authority of Jesus by the means/instrument of the Spirit to experientially, relationally yada/ginosko know God and His will, discerning through the Spirit’s sophia wisdom and sunesis ‘connect-the-dots’ understanding by way of revelation, even to epignosko genuinely know?

Without this, we will never have the enabling-power to know the secrets of the kingdom or to be victorious over sin.  The bible-students have their pride and conceit, but that’s all!  The Sola-Scriptura folks are “the blind leading the blind” – no different than the scribes and Pharisees, only “supposing they have taken hold of genuine-life.”  Without the person of the Holy Spirit not only dwelling but filling your life to completion, which is Spirit-baptism, you won’t have genuine-life, His enabling-power over sin or for ministry, or have His godly character “flavors” of the singular-fruit that is unconditional-love.  You can’t pick & choose what parts of the Spirit you want – He won’t be controlled, but will “go to the least among you” who will fully welcome Him.

Bible-only folks are stuck in the frustrations of Romans 7, always looking for some spiritual discipline, some rule, some percept, some ordnance, some commandment, or some teaching to “curb the indulgence of the flesh but they are absolutely in fact of no value,” Paul says!  These elementary “abc” principles common to every religion simply don’t work because “the flesh is utterly weak, feeble, worthless, and profits nothing,” Jesus said!  They are stuck and unable to go to the victory of Romans 8!  The only way there is to “count it all as a pile of excrement rubbish,” Paul said.  Dump it all!  Surrender!

“Coming to Jesus” is not a one-time event for salvation, because soteria salvation is “a process of restoring us to wholeness.”  Sanctification or holiness is the continuation of this process by our continuing to “Come to Jesus” and staying connected-to, abiding, or dwelling inside Jesus, by the means of Jesus, and with the company of “The Vine,” who is Jesus.  Only then will we “produce much fruit to glory the Father.”  Jesus, The Truth, is the only One that can set us free from practicing sin!  A book of information will never do this for us, even if we memorize it!

The only New Testament devotion experienced by the early Church and commanded the most is proseuche conversational-prayer, because this is the only part we play in God’s powerful chain of events – it’s the only action item.  Everything we need is “in/by/with Christ” and His Holy Spirit is the ONLY means/instrument to make that connection to God!  By routinely asking, seeking, and knocking and then watching ‘with wide-open eyes’ and listening ‘with an inclined ear’ for God to prophetically speak or show us ‘a picture worth a 1000 words’ to eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know, turning our hearts to akouo listen/hear to understand/know Christ’s Voice to His sheep, we are habitually drawing ourselves near/close to God, desperately crying out for Him as “beggars poor in Spirit,” and seeking Him out with our whole heart.  Only then will He draw near/close to us and be a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him out!  Only then can genuine knowledge of God and all that stems from this supernaturally occur.

This takes enduring, trusting-relying-faith to continue to ask for Him and the good gift of the Holy Spirit to abundantly fill you to completion with His own abundant-fullness.  It takes enduring, trusting-relying-faith to search for him as for silver, gold, or fine pearls, until you find Him.  It takes enduring, trusting-relying-faith to knock until the door is opened and you enter in to intimately dine and fellowship with Him.  This is the “obedience of faith” or “work of faith” that Paul says is the essence of the radically different-in-kind New Covenant gospel message.  Even little children, the uneducated, the handicapped, and other “least among you” can succeed at this!   Will we embrace this or go back to study and doing commandments?  Sadly, a lot of Christians have opted for the latter!  Only if we embrace the former, can we accurately sing “Jesus love me this I know” and we will accurately finish “because the Holy Spirit of Christ living in me tells me so!  And man, can I feel Him!”  This is really how little children learn from God!

Without intimacy with the Father through the Son, you have no genuine-life and remain a “Law-breaker” because you have missed the point of the Law, to bring you to Christ and for Christ to fulfill the Law so you would no longer be “Lawless.”  You will die in your sin, even if you do great things in Christ’s name!

The New Covenant way to know and do God’s will is also completely different-in-kind

Please follow the BLOG Etiquette to stay on topic and pass the moderator’s check.  Bold, underlined text below = future links to the BLOG pages.

No amount of philosophical or human sophia wisdom or sunesis rational ‘connect-the-dots’ understanding gathered second-hand from reading, studying, memorizing, or debating the gramma writings of the bible, which are at best documentation of other people’s first-hand experiences, or learned from “wise and learned” bible teachers in order to acquire doctrinal and theological gnosis info-knowledge about God will ever produce a genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of God, His will, or the ability to carry this out in righteous, holy or sanctified, godly living.

Jesus said “Woe to you experts of the Law!  You have airo lifted-up/taken-away the key to gnosis info-knowledge!  You did not enter yourselves and you hindred those who are entering” (a)!  Wait a second!  Weren’t these the experts of diagnosing scripture – “determining its nature or cause of it” and experts of religious info?  Paul criticized the Jewish teachers of the Torah Law of conditional-favor for being “educators . . . teachers . . . of the Law that has the essential features of gnosis info-knowledge” but “you do not teach yourself.  You who preach against stealing, do you steal?” (b), so Paul warns Timothy to “avoid the profane chatter and absurdities of so-called gnosis knowledge” (c), likely even a stab against the Gnostic philosophies surrounding them. Paul says ALL this gnosis info-knowledge only “puffs up” (d)!

Instead Paul urgently proseuchomai conversationally-prayed for Christians “to be strengthened with enabling-power thru-the-realizing-channel-of God’s Spirit in their inward being, that Christ may dwell in their hearts through trusting-relying-faith . . . to experientially, relationally know (e) the unconditional-love of/belonging-to Christ that exceedingly surpasses gnosis knowledge” (f).  That’s why despite the fact that he was a “Pharisee of Pharisees,” he “considered all these things [he had acquired] as liabilities comparted to the exceedingly surpassing value of the gnosis knowledge of/belonging to Christ Jesus my Lord” (g).  But then what is this “gnosis of/belonging-to Christ” that is worth dropping everything for, that requires ginosko experiential, relational knowledge to acquire it? <Notes> a) Luke 11:52, b) Romans 2:20-21, c) 1 Timothy 6:20, d) 1 Corinthians 8:1, e) ginosko, f) Ephesians 3:16-19, g) Philippians 3:8.

There is a completely different-in-kind gnosis knowledge available in the New Covenant!  It is “the fragrance of the gnosis knowledge of Christ” (a); the “gnosis knowledge of salvation” (b); the “every kind of gnosis knowledge that we were already made rich in Him” by (c); for “in Him are hidden ALL the treasures of wisdom and gnosis knowledge” (d); a “gnosis knowledge of God” that “all arrogant thoughts/arguments raised against this” whould be “taken captive of to obey Christ” (e); This “gnosis knowledge” is closely related to “prophecy and mysteries” (f), “tongues, revelation, prophecy, and teaching” (g), for as Christians we can even “give a logos message of gnosis knowledge” to another since this is a grace-gift of the Spirit.  In fact, all these are grace-gifts for Body-of-Christ ministry<Notes> a) 2 Corinthians 2:14, b) Luke 1:77, c) 1 Corinthians 1:5, d) Colossians 2:3, e) 2 Corinthians 10:5, f) 1 Corinthians 13:2, g) 1 Corinthians 14:6.

Paul knows that the Romans already have the gnosis knowledge necessary to admonish (a) reciprocally one another” (b), for “God who said ‘let light shine out of darkness’ is the One who has already shined in our heart toward/reaching the light of the glorious gnosis knowledge of/belonging to God in the face of Christ” (c), of which Paul says: “Oh, the depth of the riches and/coupled wisdom and/coupled gnosis knowledge of/belonging to God” (d). <Notes> a) noutheteo: ‘placing in the mind of’ – urgent reasoning by instruction and warning, b) Romans 15:14, c) 2 Corinthians 4:6, d) Romans 11:33.

Peter says we need to “to continually increase our gnosis knowledge” by “adding it to our trusting-relying-faith” to “keep you from becoming ineffective and unproductive in your pursuit of our genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (a);  Paul says some Corinthians “have excelled in everything – in trusting-relying-faith, in logos messages, in gnosis knowledge” (b), yet some evidently didn’t have the gnosis knowledge that it was okay to eat food sacrificed to idols, so they were “weak-in-The-Faith” and thus in “sin” if they still ate it (c). <Notes> a) 2 Peter 1:5-8, b) 2 Corinthians 8:7, c) 1 Corinthians 8:7, 10.

The secret mysteries of the kingdom of God are actually kept hidden from these “wise and understanding” people and those that simply don’t care (a) – that’s really bad news for them!  They are only revealed or uncovered (b) or gazed in awe with wide-open eyes upon (c) first-hand through directly-spoken/heard prophetic rhema words, visions, and dreams (d) to be mentally ‘seen’ to perceive/know (e), directly to the “least among you” (f) – those who are willing to be like lowly little children (g), who are relentless in their asking and waiting for answers.  Will we be one of them? <Notes> a) Matthew 11:25, 13:11; Luke 8:10, 10:21, b) apokalupto, c) optanomai, d) Acts 2:17-19, e) eido, the way prophets “saw” the knowledge of God, f) Jeremiah 31:34, g) Matthew 11:25; 18:3, 19:14.

Directly-spoken/heard prophetic rhema words of God are the way Jesus, all NT apostles, and all OT and NT prophets of God ever learned from God!  Zoe genuine-life can only be acquired by experientially, relationally ginosko knowing the Father and the Son (a).  Jesus said, no amount of “searching the scriptures, supposing that by them we may find/hold onto zoe genuine-life” will help, because they simply “testify/witness to Come to Me for zoe genuine-life” (b).  The OT scriptures have already served their purpose to the Jews!  Jesus said, “For all the Prophets and the Torah Law of conditional-favor prophesied UNTIL John [the Baptist] appeared” (c), and Jesus added “SINCE THEN the ‘Great News’ gospel of the kingdom of God is preached and everyone is forcing their way into it” (d).  The OT was finished and the NT began!  <Notes> a) John 17:3, b) Jon 5:39-40, c) Matthew 11:13, d) Luke 16:16.

All this scholarly “work of studying manuscripts” and all the “works of righteousness” by obeying OT commandments, Jesus says in context is “the flesh that is of no advantage/usefullness at all  – only My directly-spoken/heard prophetic rhema words are Spirit and zoe genuine-life” (a).  Only by turning back to the Lord through repentance; resting from our works by resting in His righteousness; being still in devoted, patiently waiting, watching, quietly listening, worshipful, proseuche conversational-prayer; and simply having trusting-relying-faith will we find strength and salvation – this study of the knowledge of God will show hundreds of verses that say this!  Paul says “whether you obey the Torah Law of conditional-favor [as Jews do] or not [as Gentiles don’t] counts for absolutely in fact nothing – only trusting-relying-faith working through unconditional-love” (b) – See Only 2 Commandments.  Yet, I run into so many Christians and churches that either don’t know this or refuse to let go! <Notes> a) John 6:63, b) Galatians 5:6.

In fact, “The Promise” of the New Covenant in Jeremiah 31:31-34, Isaiah 30:1-30, and other passages is that God will be mentally ‘seen’ to perceive/know (a), observed/perceived-known/discerned (b), even gazed at in awe with wide-open-eyes (c), and heard/listened to be understood (d) by ALL His actual people, but this happens first by “the least among” His people as He works His way down to the “greatest among you.”  And “absolutely in fact and in possibility NO LONGER will any man need to teach another to experientially, relationally yada/ginosko know (e) the Lord.”  That’s because they “shall ALL be taught by God” (e).  This is a radical diversion from the Old Testament way that the knowledge of God was disseminated, taught from “the greatest to the least” – from Moses to Aaron, His Sons, down to the Levitical priests, down to the men of other tribes, down to the women, down to the children, and finally to the slaves and Gentile proselytes.  Now God has bypassed man entirely and starts from the bottom up!  No more stone tablets, scrolls, books, or middle men to copy or interpret them – no more transmission errors or even teachers needed!  This is completely different-in-kind and unprecedented indeed! <Notes> a) eido, b) horao.  For more about discernment – see New Covenant Ways – BT16, c) optanomai, d) akouo, e) John 6:45; presently/ongoingly: 1 Thessalonians 4:9; Isaiah 54:13.

What’s our part to play?  In Colossians 4:2 Paul exhorts Christians:  Ongoingly be earnest towards (a) proseuche conversational-prayerhabitually watching (b) in it with thanksgiving.”  Why?  Because he understands that if we pray like he did, we can also be filled with the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of God’s will, as Paul said earlier in Colossians 1:9-12, “We have not ceased to proseuchomai conversationally-pray for you and/coupled asking (that is deesis supplication) in order that you might be filled with the genuine, experiential, relational, epignosis knowledge of God’s will by all [kinds of] Spirit-kind-of sophia wisdom and sunesis ‘connect-the-dots’ understanding.  Clearly this is how we “learn, discern, or understand” God’s will – through revelation by the means of the Spirit!  But the whole process starts with proseuchconversational-prayer!  For more about this, see Spirit-Baptism – BT5 and – BT8<Notes> a) persevere, diligent, attend assiduously, b) staying awake, alert, attentive, vigilant.

As Christian musicians, diagnostic analysis of the bible to acquire gnosis knowledge about God is a set of keys that will never open the door to genuinely knowing God.  The true gnosis of God is found only in God, taught to us directly by Him, but never found in a book about Him.  God gave 1 way to do acquire this – given to the prophet, not the scholar.  Direct contact that produces experiential knowledge through prophetic rhema via visions and dreams is the only set of keys that will work!  We must be all be “taught by God” if any of the knowledge is to be genuine!  All the scholars have to show for their study is an ego.  But they will never find or take hold of genuine-life, no matter how long they “suppose” they will in all their “diligent searching/study.”

The “secrets of the kingdom will be kept hidden from the ‘wise and understanding ones’ but revealed to simple, uneducated, trusting little children” or “those who become like a little child.”  The written letters of God have served their purpose – to prepare the Jews for Jesus.  Why are we insisting on more letters when “the promise” was for that “ALL God’s men and women servants shall indeed prophesy” and so “ALL shall eido mentally ‘see’ God to perceive/know Him” so “absolutely in fact and in possibility NO LONGER will anybody need to be taught to know the Lord?”  That’s why 1 John 2:20, 27 insists that you shouldn’t even be listening to other teachers because you have the anointing that teaches you everything!  That’s “the promise” – not more writings and teachers to explain them!

Habitually asking, seeking, knocking, and waiting in proseuche conversational-prayer is the only “work” we can do to know God or His will for us, the only part we play in the process, and the rest is up to the Spirit of God to teach us and empower us to please the Lord.  That way God gets all the credit!  This certainly does take trusting-relying-faith to draw near to God until He draws near to us.  Thus the righteous shall live by faith, from one step to the other.

Jesus rejected the traditional rabbinic training method for disciple-making through study and debate of scripture and the writings of other rabbis, instead saying:  “My yoke (a) is ongoingly easy (b) and My burden (c) to carry is ongoingly light (d)” (e).  This approach is made just right for little children that can’t read or remember to do much!  Little children are made just right for the “One Leader” Christ and the One Teacher Holy Spirit (f) who would “guide them into all The Truth” (g) and “teach them all things” (h).  This is “the Spirit of The Truth” (i), the “anointing by the Holy One who gives you ALL knowledge . . . that abides in you so that you have absolutely in fact no need that anyone should teach you, for His anointing actually, ongoingly teaches you about ALL things, is trustworthy and can’t lie, just as it (the anointing) has already taught you to remain in Christ” (j). <Notes> a) a training harness, b) kind, good, useful, better, c) of commandments, rules, etc., d) as a wind blows clouds, e) Matthew 11:30, f) Matthew 23:8 – see Teach One Another – BT10, g) John 16:13, h) John 14:26, i) John 14:17, 15:26, 16:13, 1 John 4:6, j) 1 John 2:20, 27.

Paul tells us the process of how Christians were to have “learned (a) Christ” – “1) You have already heard about Him (b), 2) and were already taught in/by/with Him, inasmuch (c) The Truth is in/by/with Jesus” (d).  Paul is saying that he may have preached the gospel, but it was definitely Jesus that personally taught them the following:  “1) to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and 2) to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and 3) to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”  If we don’t listen to Christ directly teach us by His Holy Spirit, there is just no chance for His “righteousness and holiness.”  It’s that simple! <Notes> a) manthano: been informed of, came to understand, became knowledgeable of, b) likely from Paul’s preaching, c) just as, to the degree that, d) Ephesians 4:20-24.

Therefore, the only universal spiritual “devotions” for Christians not directly involving the 12 apostles in the 1st century that are left standing for us in the 21st century are:  to God (a), to Christian koinonia fellowship and/coupled the breaking of bread together (b), to the service of the saints (c), to every good work in Christ (d), but clearly the most references are to devotion to proseuche conversational-prayer (e).  It’s obvious what the emphasis of our “devotion” should be to – proseuche conversational-prayer, which is waiting, watching, and listening for the Lord to speak directly-spoken/heard prophetic rhema words!  It’s not about “WHAT you know but WHO you know.”  Isn’t it strange that the modern Church doesn’t have the same priorities? <Notes> a) Matthew 6:24; Luke 16:13, b) their “love feasts” and “remembrance of the Lord’s sacrifice” – Acts 2:42, 46, 20:7; Jude 1:12; 1 Corinthians 10:16, c) 1 Corinthians 16:15, d) 1 Timothy 5:10, e) Luke 11:5-9, 18:1, 21:36; Acts 1:14, 2:42, 6:4; Romans 12:12; 1 Corinthians 7:5; 1 Thessalonians 5:17; Ephesians 6:18; Colossians 4:2.

The Truth” in the NT is absolutely not more scriptural knowledge “WHATs” to know about, but Jesus WHO to personally know, who is the aletheia “actual absolute reality or expression” of God.  “The Truth” about God “is in/by/with Jesus” (a), precisely because “Jesus is The Truth” (b), just as “The Spirit of Christ is The Truth” (c).  “The Truth that shall actually set you free” in John 8:31-32 that Jesus speaks of isn’t His teachings or OT graphe scripture or any future NT gramma writings, but “The Son sets you free” in verse 36.  In referring to Christ’s arrival, John 1:14-17 contrasts “The Torah Law of conditional-favor given thru-the-realizing-channel-of Moses, but The Unconditional-Favor-of-Grace and The Truth came into existence thru-the-realizing-channel-of Jesus Christ.”  Grace and Truth are personified!  Learning more about Jesus through OT prophecies, NT writings, or reading extra-biblical sources can only make you a fan, but like baseball fans who know all the stats about a player, these fans won’t ever really know their hero until they have had many direct, one-on-one, personal conversations with them.  So it is with Jesus! As Christian musicians, you really can’t play anointed, prophetic, and even spontaneous music until you do, and have surrendered control to Him by letting Him play His music through you.  And this takes a very real personal relationship of trusting-relying-faith<Notes> a) Ephesians 4:21, b) John 14:6, c) 1 John 5:6; Romans 8:9; 1 Peter 1:11; 2 Corinthians 3:18.

Consequently, there is so much written in the NT about COMING TO the “WHO” of JESUS through routine, devoted, waiting, watching, listening proseuche conversational-prayer, even by His Spirit’s help (a), even by tongues as opposed to only by the understanding of your own mind (b) as many today have sadly settled with.  Proseuche conversational-prayer is different than simply giving God our list of petitions or deesis supplications (c), though this is also important, especially for routinely asking for the good grace-gift of the Holy Spirit for God’s kingdom to come and His will to be done (d).  <Notes> a) Romans 8:26, b) 1 Thessalonians 5:17; 1 Corinthians 14:13-15; Matthew 6:9; Luke 11:2, c) Ephesians 6:18; Philippians 4:6; 1 Timothy 2:1, d) Luke 11:1-13.

As Christian musicians, proseuche conversational-prayer in koinonia fellowship with the Lord is really the key for a musician wanting to hear by the Spirit how to co-create anointed, prophetic, and even spontaneous music!  You can’t give out through your playing what you haven’t received.  You can try to fake it “in the flesh” with your own “might and power,” but it won’t be real – you know it and God knows it!  Jesus stated in John 17:3:  “Zoe genuine-life only comes by experientially, relationally ginosko knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ who He sent.”  Our focus must not be on “WHAT notes to play for God” but on “WHO is playing them through us.”

The world’s philosophy, gnosis information, and wisdom is rubbish!

Please follow the BLOG Etiquette to stay on topic and pass the moderator’s check.  Bold, underlined text below = future links to the BLOG pages.

Philosophia is the love for wisdom, zeal for or skill in any art or science, or any branch of gnosis info-knowledge.  It may be used here in Colossians 2:8 of the theosophy or sophistry of certain Jewish-Christian ascetics, which busied themselves with refined and speculative inquiries into the nature and classes of angels/spirits, into the ritual of the Mosaic Law, and into the regulations of Jewish tradition respecting practical life.  In addition, the Gnostic-like heresy at Colossae would undoubtedly have also been regarded by Paul as an “elementary, abc-like stoicheion teaching” at best because of their puffed-up” pride in acquisition of gnosis info-knowledge and “mysteries” (a).  However, such Jewish or Gentile gnosis didn’t even come close to genuinely, experientially, relationally epiginosko knowing the mystery of God that is Christ (b), which is the unconditional-love of Christ that surpasses gnosis info-knowledge (c).  The former, not the latter, is what the whole Church is to grow up to attain (d)!  Yet much of the Church has made dogma, doctrine, and theology its main quest!  <Notes> a) thus the Mystery Religions, b) Colossians 2:2; 1 Corinthians 2:2; 2 Corinthians 4:6, 10:5; Philippians 3:8, c) Ephesians 3:19, d) Ephesians 4:13.

Philosophy is definitely not the genuine, experiental, relational epignosis knowledge of The Truth that is consistent with godliness (a), the epignosis knowledge of every good thing that is IN US (b) for the sake of Christ (c), so we can be effective and fruitful in the epignosis knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (d), so we can escape the defilements of the world through the epignosis knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (e), so we can grow in unconditional-favor-of-grace and epignosis knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (f), recognizing that the Son of God came to give us dianoia understanding (g), so that we may epignosko know Him, the true [one], and we are IN Him, the true [one], in His Son Jesus Christ (i).”  The gnosis info-knowledge of religion, whether the OT religion of the priests, scribes, Pharisees, and Sadducees, or Gentile religions and philosophies, is simply completely different-in-kind than the New (a) Covenant knowing of God through Christ.   <Notes> a) Titus 1:1, b) by the Spirit, c) Philemon 1:6, d) 2 Peter 1:8, e) 2 Peter 2:20, f) 2 Peter 3:18, g) dianoia: as a faculty for deep thinking, imagination, feeling, and desiring, h) and we are in Him who is true, i) 1 John 5:20, j) chadash, kainos: fresh, completely different-in-kind, unprecedented, sharing nothing with its predecessors, unique, and superior.

1 Corinthians 1:17-31 says:  “For Christ did not send me to water-baptize, but to preach the gospelabsolutely in fact not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect. For the logos gospel message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the enabling-power of God.  For it is written:  ‘I will destroy the sophia wisdom of the wise, and bring to nothing the sunesis connect-the-dots understanding of the understanding ones.’  Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the sophia wisdom of this world? For since, in the wisdom of/belonging-to God, the world through [human] sophia wisdom did absolutely in fact not experientially, relationally ginosko know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the logos gospel message preached to save those who have trusting-relying-faith. For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after sophia wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the enabling-power of God and the sophia wisdom of/belonging-to God.  Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.  For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise kata down-from/according-to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.  But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty (c) and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory/boast in His presence.  But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us sophia wisdom from God – and righteousness and sanctification and redemption – that, as it is written, ‘He who glories, let him glory in Yahweh.'”

Here we see theleast among you” are the “weak things of the world” and “the base things of the world” and “the things which are despised” by the world – these God “has chosen” first before “the greatest among them” that are “the things which are mighty” that are the so-called “wise and noble.”  Why?  So that NOBODY will be able to boast before God of any self-importance!  Also, we see Paul saying he didn’t come with a “words-of-wisdom” message like all the others.  This would be appealing to their trusting-relying-faith in his knowledge.  We see below from 1 Corinthians 2:1, 13 that Paul wants them to instead have trusting-relying-faith in the Holy Spirit that confirms the message with demonstrable signs & wonders, which is exactly the “enabling-power of God” and “enabling-power of the cross” Paul speaks of in 1 Corinthians 1:17-18.

Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:1-6, “And brethren, when I came to you, I absolutely in fact did not come with excellence of speech or of sophia wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God.  For I determined absolutely in fact not to experientially, relationally ginosko know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were absolutely in fact not with persuasive words of human sophia wisdom, but in demonstration/manifestation of the [Holy] Spirit and/coupled of [His] enabling-power, that your trusting-relying-faith should absolutely in possibility NOT be in the sophia wisdom of men but in the enabling-power of God.  However, we [do] speak sophia wisdom among those who are mature, yet absolutely in fact not the sophia wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.”

This is a direct slam against the great Jewish leaders and teachers of Paul’s day that were trained as rabbis to endlessly debate the Torah Law of conditional-favor [as Paul had been trained to do], but also obviously a slam against Greek philosophy, logic, and rational-thought sciences that stem from the Greeks and their list of great teachers and debaters, which produced nothing but human-based gnosis info-knowledge.  Paul considered his rabbinic training a complete loss or detriment compared to the surpassing excellency of the gnosis info-knowledge of/belonging to Christ Jesus (a), and so now he is dedicated to destroying such arguments against Christ (b).  Will we be like them, looking for knowledge in all the wrong places? <Notes> a) Philippians 3:8, b) 2 Corinthians 10:5.

As Christian musicians, are we looking for the knowledge of God in all the wrong places, the same places that all religions do – sacred books, even scripture?  That’s the stoicheion abc’s common to them all!  “Elementary, my dear Watson,” Sherlock Holmes would say!  All it ever did for anybody was “puff up” those who could “diagnose” God and divide them from those who couldn’t.  But the Lord has rejected the “wise and understanding ones” and instead reveals Himself and His “secret knowledge” to the uneducated little children and the other “least among them.”  If the “unconditional-love of Christ surpasses all gnosis informational-knowledge,” is must by definition not be “diagnosable” – it must be experienced through actual relationship with Christ!  Everything else is given to us by the Spirit’s enabling-power through this intimate connection with God.

This certainly will frustrate the book-worms, philosophers, and debaters!  If our message is just writings or words, we really are no different than all the others, asking people to put their faith in writings and/or our explanation of them.  Paul didn’t come with a Sola Scriptura or “word-only” gospel – but with God’s confirming power, so that people would place their faith in God instead!

The knowledge of God is revealed to the ‘Least Among You’ first!

Please follow the BLOG Etiquette to stay on topic and pass the moderator’s check.  Bold, underlined text below = future links to the BLOG pages.

In Matthew 18:1-4 “At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’  Then Jesus called a paidion young/infant child to Himself, set (a) him in the midst of them, and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted (b) and become as paidion young/infant children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles/lowers himself as this paidion young/infant child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.'” Clearly, Jesus has turned the hierarchal idea of authoritative greatness upside down – see Coaches and Facilitators and Least Among You pages. <Notes> a) histemi: placed, made to stand up, balanced into place – this implies this “young child” was so young that Jesus may have picked him up and had to help stand, b) strepho: turn around one’s mind, a synonym for metanoeo: repent or think differently towards someone, to have a change in moral conviction.

One thing about very little children is they can’t get and don’t need to get caught up in sophisticated sunesis ‘connect-the-dots’ reasoning as to “why” they should do what their parents tell them to do.  And their parents don’t expect them to!  The adults tell them not to run out into the street because they want to protect them from danger. The kids don’t have a clue what a car is or how dangerous they can be.  And the parents don’t need to go into a “contextual, rational, higher reasoning” explanation when they warn their kids.  They hope that their fellowship with their kids is good enough that the kids just “trust and obey.”  Later on, when they grow up, kids like to ask “why!”  When they are teenagers, they could care less about the “whys” and just believe their thinking is better anyway!  And even if they understood “why” they often just want to rebel anyway.  The older we get, the more and more unlikely we will simply trust what God has to say, not try to over-analyze it, or try to rationalize around it – the deception of Satan in the garden of Eden was to say, “Did God really say ___ ?” and “Didn’t God really mean ___ ?”

Is it naïve or foolish or ignorant or too “fundamental” to be ‘like a little child’ when it comes to God’s logos gospel message of The Truth given to us?  Do the “wise and understanding” post-modernists, German textual “higher” critics, and de-mythification “experts” of many mainstream Christian denominations think they are “more enlightened” than the millions of Christians that have come before them, and that they have an advantage over all the other Christians?  In their “greatness of wisdom” that says “Did God really say?” make them any closer to being “like a little child to enter the kingdom” or be the ‘first’ to really yada/ginosko experientially, relationally know God?  Do they really have a clearer picture of how to be in a saved relational koinonia fellowship with God?  Is their “broader road” that encompasses more of the scientific thought of man in the last 100 years really helping Christians walk through the “narrow gate” that leads to salvation?  Let’s see what the Apostle Paul, an ambassador of Christ sent to the “smart thinking” people of Ancient Greece in Colossians 2:8 says:

“Beware lest anyone cheat (a) you through philosophy and empty (b) deceit (c), kata down-from/according-to the traditions of men, kata down-from/according-to the elementary (d) principles of the world (e), which are absolutely not in fact kata down-from/according-to Christ.”  None of the world’s philosophy, science, or religions comes from Jesus!  <Notes> a) lead away, sway, or seduce from truth, carry one off as a captive, slave, or one’s booty or spoils, b) useless, devoid of truth, fruitless, vain, c) seductive, deceptive, delusion, d) stoicheion: fundamental, abc-like elementary teaching common to all religions striving to ‘climb up to God,’ even the Jewish one, e) context: the religion of the Gentiles and even the Jews.

As Christian musicians, shouldn’t we embrace the way little kids before reading age learn from their parents and learn from God this way, simply by “trusting and obeying,” instead of still trying to emulate the way of the “wise and understanding ones,” even when “the secrets of the kingdom are kept hidden from them?”  Why are we still holding up the teacher-leaders when they will be ‘last’ in the kingdom?  Why are we borrowing from Old Testament religion or the world’s philosophies, sciences, businesses, or religions when all of this only builds The Great Wall quenching the Holy Spirit, especially since none of any of this comes from Christ?

The knowledge of God was prophesied to radically change in the New Covenant

Please follow the BLOG Etiquette to stay on topic and pass the moderator’s check.  Bold, underlined text below = future links to the BLOG pages.

Hebrews 8:11 cites Jeremiah 31:34 because it radically distinguishes the completely different-in-kind chadash, kainos New Covenant from the old covenant, for the definitions of the Hebrew chadash and Greek kainos mean “fresh, completely different-in-kind, unprecedented, sharing nothing with its predecessors, unique, and superior.”  In Jeremiah 31:31-32 God drives this home: “I will make a New Covenant . . . absolutely in fact not like the covenant that I had made . . . My [previous] covenant they (b) broke” – the Jews the Lord led out of Egypt had indeed broken it, so how was it any longer useful?

One radical difference is that the Torah “Law” of God will no longer be commandments written on stone or paper for God’s people to learn from human teachers, read, study, debate, or memorize in order “to experientially, relationally yada/ginosko know the Lord.”  This time, according to Jeremiah 31:33-34, God says: “I will put My Law (a) within them – I will write it on their hearts, . . . and/coupled absolutely in fact and in possibility no (b) longer/again shall each person teach his neighbor (c) and/coupled each person his brother (d) to ‘experientially, relationally yada/ginosko know the Lord,’ for My people shall all eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know (e) Me – from the least of them to the greatest.”  You can’t use any stronger language to say that the New Covenant Ways are completely different-in-kind from the old covenant ways!  It’s very upsetting to hear Christians and churches say the NT is a continuation of the OT, but albiet better, and that we should continue the same hierarchy of teacher-leaders in the Church!  That’s just crazy! <Notes> a) torah, nomos: principles or instruction, b) ou methe strongest absolute negative possible – like bolding, all caps, and underlining for emphasis, c) fellow Jews, d) family members, e) eido is prophetic vision.

That’s another radical difference between the old and the New – the old was taught from the top-down through a hierarchy of authoritative teachers, from Moses all the way down to the uneducated children and slaves.  Jesus destroys this hierarchy!  In fact the NT explains that the kingdom of God comes to the so-called “the least or last” first, and the so-called “greatest or first” last (a) – see Coaches and Facilitators, Body-of-Christ Ministry, Teach One Another, and Least Among You pages. <Notes> a) Matthew 20:8, 16; Mark 9:35, 10:31; Luke 13:30.

As Christian musicians, are we even aware of the radically different way to knowing God between the Old and New Testaments?  Are we still telling people to read about God and His principles, ways, and instruction like the Jews were told?  Are we still relying on a hierarchy of teachers to disseminate the knowledge of God?  Are keeping the uneducated on the bottom of the stack because of this old paradigm?

Epignosis, epiginosko, and ginosko is experiential, relational, eido ‘seeing’ knowledge

Please follow the BLOG Etiquette to stay on topic and pass the moderator’s check.  Bold, underlined text below = future links to the BLOG pages.

The words epignosis (noun) or epiginosko (verb), and to a lesser degree ginosko, are very important words describing an intimate fellowship type of knowledge in the NT, precisely because the Jewish scribes/scholars and Pharisee teachers were experts at gnosis info-knowledge about God as well as the Greek philosophers and Gnostics who prided themselves in such “insider ‘secret’ information.”  But Paul recognized that “this gnosis knowledge puffs (a) up” (b).  Also, Jesus accused the bible experts of His day:  “You painstakingly search the scriptures because you suppose that in them you may take hold of zoe genuine-life everlasting, but it is they that bear witness of Me, yet you refuse to come to Me that you may take hold of zoe genuine-life.”  They may have lots of gnosis info-knowledge, even reciting from memory what was on any page of their bible!  However, they didn’t have prophetic eido visionary knowledge: “Is this not the reason you are wrong, because you absolutely in fact eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know neither the scriptures nor the enabling-power of God?” (c). <Notes> a) swells the head to conceit, b) 1 Corinthians 8:1, c) Mark 12:24, Matthew 22:29.

They intellectually knew all about the unconditional-love of God, but Jesus still could say:  “But I experientially, relationally ginosko know that you absolutely do not in fact have The Unconditional-Love of God within you” (a).  For Jesus stated to His disciples: “This is zoe genuine-life everlasting:  that they experientially, relationally ginosko know You, the only true God, and/coupled Jesus Christ who you sent” (b).  Bible study it is not the way to genuinely know God, even though the Jews taught this as do many Christians, but through the eido ‘seeing’ knowledge of the completely different-in-kind New Covenant (c).  <Notes> a) John 5:42, b) John 17:3, c) Jeremiah 31:34.

Those who teach that bible study is “the way” actually don’t even know what the bible says about this subject, and thus they are merely teaching “traditions of men.”  I’ve studied everything the bible says about this for years and it’s very clear that the prophetic, directly-spoken/heard prophetic rhema word via eido vision is “the way” to ginosko, epiginosko, and epignosis knowledge, and this is is what was intended under the New Covenant to actually know God.  Christian musicians need to understand this if they are going to learn effectively from God or lead others to this through their music.

The scribes, philosophers, debaters, and Gnostics with all their gnosis info-knowledge, sophia wisdom, and sunesis connect-the-dots inductive understanding didn’t even come close to genuinely knowing God, because their knowledge was not experientially, relationally ginosko knowing and thus it could not be considered genuine epiginosko/epignosis knowledge.  That’s exactly why the NT writers use these terms to distinquish the completely different-in-kind New Covenant way!  Paul agrees with Isaiah who both agree with God, saying:  “For it is written (b), ‘I will apollumi absolutely, permanently destroy the sophia wisdom of the wise ones, and sunesis connect-the-dots inductive understanding of the understanding ones I will reject as invalid (a).’  Where is the one who is sophia wise?  Where is the scribe (bible-experts)?  Where is the debater (Greek philosophers and Jew) of this age?  Has not God made foolish the sophia wisdom of the world” (c)?  <Notes> a) atheteo: disrespect, despise, reject as invalid, disregard as spurious, b) Isaiah 29:14, c) 1 Corinthians 1:19-20.

Jesus said it best, “the flesh absolutely in fact actually, ongoingly profits (a) nothing” (b), and in context Jesus was talking about the Jewish religion!  Zechariah 4:6’s “might and power” approach is totally worthless to God!  Worldly sunesis understanding can only connect dots of data next or near each other (sequitur) to inductively reason a conclusion.  Then they apply their gnosis information and sunesis rationale to a particular situation and they call that wisdom!  How limited and how foolish because they base their confidence on their own limitations!  What frustrates the heck out of the world’s “understanding ones” is when God through the revelation of the Spirit ‘connects dots’ of information very far apart (non-sequitur) to give His own sunesis understanding to His servants, even little children or other uneducated “least among them.”  <Notes> a) is useful or advantageous for, b) John 6:63.

God can and does “out of thin air” reveal exactly the information He has hidden within Himself and gives it “free of charge” to US just in that very moment for that very situation.  But when He does this for me, I just stand back in awe and praise Him!  The same is true for playing music!  There are so many brilliant, talented musicians, even Christians ones, but if it is only based on the world’s sophia wisdom, sunesis logic, and gnosis knowledge, then God completely rejects it as spurious and good for nothing.  So why are Christian musicians resorting to it, in many cases no differently than worldly men, and justifying it because they are now doing it for God?  This is the definition of religion!

Just how genuine is this verb epiginosko that we should desire this?  As genuinely “the real thing” as Christ’s knowledge of us, for we will have this same knowledge of Christ and His kingdom when He returns and changes us into His likeness in a twinkling of an eye (a).  As genuinely as the Father knows the Son and the Son knows the Father and anyone to whom the Son decides to reveal Him (b).  As genuinely as Luke’s gospel research was for Theophilus to know for certain the things he was taught concerning Jesus (c).  As genuinely as examining yourself to know if Jesus Christ is really within you (d).  As genuinely as when Christ knew when Spirit-power had gone out from Him to heal someone who had touched Him in the crowd (e).  As genuinely as the gospel bears fruit and grows wherever in the world the unconditional-favor-of-grace of God in The Truth is really known (f), that is to really have known The Way of righteousness (g).  <Notes> a) 1 Corinthians 13:12, 15:52-54; Philippians 3:20-21; Colossians 3:4; Romans 8:17, 29; 2 Thessalonians 1:10, b) Matthew 11:27, c) Luke 1:4, d) 2 Corinthians 13:5, e) Mark 5:30, f) Colossians 1:6, g) 2 Peter 2:21.

This ‘knowledge’ goes way beyond outward sight but requires revelation to open our eyes to really know Jesus (a).  Without this revelation the Jews didn’t know that John the Baptist really was Elijah that was to come (b).  How else could Jesus simply walk through a crowd of angry Jews that were going to throw Him over a cliff (c)?  How many times was it that Jesus was only suddenly recognized by others (d)?  And yet we can genuinely know the ‘inside’ nature/essence by the outward like a tree is known by its fruit (e).  If Christian musicians want people to really “get it” and really know God, then they will have to “get them” beyond the ‘outer’ physical realm into the ‘inner’ realm of the Spirit, into the very heart of God.  This is where fruit and righteousness will come from.  But how can they lead others to something they do not have?  And that’s why Christians, certainly those with the Spirit’s grace-gift of discernment – see New Covenant Ways – BT16, can ‘see’ that many Christian songs are coming from a place of “might and power” flesh and not from the realm of the Spirit.  Remember that you can only be in one of those circles as a time because the circles don’t even touch – see Identity!  Let us strive to make music from within the Spirit circle!  <Notes> a) Luke 24:16, 31, b) Matthew 17:12, c) Luke 4:28-30, d) Mark 6:54; Matthew 14:35, e) Matthew 7:16, 12:33; Luke 6:44.

Just how genuine is this noun epignosis that we should desire this?  The religious zealousness FOR God that the Jews has was not down-from/according-to genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of God (a).  No! “God calls all people to be saved and/coupled to come by repentance to the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of The Truth” (b), who we can only genuinely, experientially, relationally epiginosko know is Christ (c) and His logos gospel message of The Truth (d).  Some people “will always be learning (e) from teachers but never come to a genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of The Truth” (f).  <Notes> a) Romans 10:2, b) 1 Timothy 2:4; 2 Timothy 2:25, c) John 14:6, d) Titus 1:1; Ephesians 1:13; Colossians 1:5, e) gnosis info-knowledge of the bible is implied, f) 2 Timothy 3:7.

However, if you genuinely want to experience sin, just embrace the OT Law, “for through the Torah Law of conditional-favor comes the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of sin” (a)!  A sure fire way to “be given over by God to a depraved mind to do what should not be done” is to “absolutely not in fact examine to prove genuine God in/by/with having and holding [in your] genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge [of God]” (b) – in other words, stop looking for God to genuinely have and hold Him by experiential fellowship.  That’s how we get into sin!  Reading and studying the OT will just speed up the process!  If Christians musicians want to lead people away from sin to a Holy God, then they will have to stay out of the OT Law or zealousness for it, but instead lead people to The Truth in Jesus Christ and to His Spirit of holiness, and this ‘learning’ won’t be through a ton of teaching gnosis info-knowledge of the bible but leading them into genuinely experiencing the Lord through fellowship with Him.  The experts of the bible were “the blind leading the blind” (c). <Notes> a) Romans 3:20, b) Romans 1:28, c) Matthew 15:14.

Paul knows proseuchomai conversationally-prayer is the key, thus praying: “That your unconditional-love may abound more and more in/by/with genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge and/coupled all types of discernment, in order that you may approve what is excellent and so be pure and blameless for the Day of Christ, having been with ongoing effect filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ” (a).  Paul knows what Christians really need, which is only granted in proseuche conversational-prayer:  “that God . . . may give you the Spirit of wisdom and/coupled of revelation in/by/with the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of Him, having [with ongoing results] the eyes of your hearts enlightened, toward/reaching that you may eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know what is the hope to which He has called you, what are the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and also what is the immeasurable greatness of His Spirit-power toward us who have trusting-relying-faith” (b).  <Notes> a) Philippians 1:9-11, b) Ephesians 1:17-19.

Therefore Paul never ceases to proseuchomai conversationally-pray for them to “be filled with the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of His will in/by/with all Spirit-kind sophia wisdom and sunesis connect-the-dots understanding (a) to walk (b) in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, routinely bearing fruit in every good work and/coupled routinely increasing in the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of God, routinely being strengthened with all Spirit-power down-from/according-to His glorious manifested kratos might toward/reaching all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father” (c).  Whew, that’s a long sentence!  Did Paul even breathe?  Do you see the chain of events that comes from and relies on genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge?  It was Paul’s goal for Christians “to reach all the riches of full assurance of sunesis connect-the-dots understanding towards/reaching the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of sophia wisdom and gnosis info-knowledge, so that no one may deceive you with plausible arguments” (d).  This is a total slap in the face of Gnostics who claimed they had “secret or hidden” gnosis info-knowledge<Notes> a) notice that Paul had to qualify these terms often used derogatorily of the natural human-kinds, b) this is only possible if you meet those conditions stated, c) Colossians 1:9-12, d) Colossians 2:2-4.

How is the “New man” that we received in water-baptism (a) renewed or refreshed routinely?  “By the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge down-from/according-to the Image of Him that created him” (b)!  What is the goal of Christ’s grace-gifts of apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds and/thus teach to equip (c) the saints to be the actual ministers?  It is to “build up the Body-of-Christ until we ALL attain to the unity of The trusting-relying-Faith and/coupled the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of the Son of God towards/reaching a Perfect Man towards/reaching the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ in order that we many no longer be children tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes” (d).  The solution to immunity from false teaching or heresy is not more bible study!  That’s exactly what the Jewish teachers were using to confuse Jewish-Christians!  In this case, you don’t ‘fight fire with fire’ but with buckets of “the Living Water” (see Spirit-Power-BT3) of the Holy Spirit’s revelational knowledge that only comes through intimate fellowship with Jesus!  Again notice the chain of events that come from genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge!  If Christian musicians want the results they see described here, they must start at the beginning of the line – there are no shortcuts!  <Notes> a) Romans 6:4, b) Colossians 3:10, c) coach and facilitate, d) Ephesians 4:7-14.

Peter also knows what the proseuche conversational-prayer keys are to the kingdom:  “May unconditional-favor-of-grace and peace be multiplied to you in/by/with the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.  His divine Spirit-power has granted to us all things that pertain to zoe genuine-life and godliness dia thru-the-realizing-channel-of the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of Him who called us to His own glory and excellence dia thru-the-realizing-channel-of, which He has granted to us His precious and stupendous promises in order that dia thru-the-realizing-channel-of them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having already escaped from the corruption that is the world because of sinful desire. . . if these qualities – trusting-relying-faith, virtue, gnosis knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly love, unconditional-love – are yours and are increasing, they will keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful toward/reaching the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (a).  Again, look at the chain of “dia channels, conduits, interfaces, avenues, or ways” that flow from the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of God and Jesus!  <Notes> a) 2 Peter 1:2-8.

Evidently Peter, being stuck in Jerusalem, didn’t argue with many Gnostics so he isn’t as “touchy” about using the term gnosisknowledge, but we see above that even Paul said the gnosis He desired was “hidden in Christ.”  And in Philippians 3:8 Paul considered his rabbinic training a complete loss or detriment compared surpassing excellency of the gnosis info-knowledge of/belonging to Christ Jesus.  So you sure won’t get this through book-learning!  How are we going to possibly “escape the defilement of the world” but “in/by/with the genuine, experiential, relational epignosis knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (a)?  Again, if Christian musicians want the results they see described here, they must start at the beginning of the line – there are no shortcuts!  <Notes> a) 2 Peter 2:20.

As Christian musicians, do we want to keep promoting bible knowledge about God that actually kept the scholars from really knowing and loving God as the prophets did by mentally ‘seeing’ God, leaving the bible students only with conceit?  Are we going to try to learn from God the old way or the completely different-in-kind New Covenant way?  All the religions of the world, including the Jewish one, have a sacred book that consider “the way” to God, and their “book’s scholars” teach “that way.”  That’s not what Jesus came to bring more of!  He is now “the Way” and He left us His Spirit to continue to be “the Way” to the Father per John 14:6.  The first sermon of the Church told us “the way” that God intends to communicate to His “men and women servants” throughout the Church age is through prophecy by revelation of the Spirit, thus completely destroying and rejecting the way of the “wise and rational understanding ones!”  God keeps The Truth hidden from these people but freely gives it to “the younger or uneducated ‘lasts’ before the ‘firsts’ – poetic justice!  Are we going to use religion’s ways to learn from God and thus be “ever learning but never really knowing,” or be like a little child by relentlessly asking, seeking, and knocking until it is given to us?  Do we want just more “about” God through bible study, or genuinely learn directly from God through relationship?  Are you ready to have your “eyes and ears opened” to really know the Lord?

And why are we trying to gain more knowledge about the Law when it actually brings about more experience with sin, actually multiplying it?  Did it help the Jewish bible scholars?  No!  They were rank pagans!  Only genuine, relational, koinonia-fellowship knowing of the Lord keeps us from sin!  Only actual connection to the Vine of Christ produces any fruit of holiness or godliness!  Only the devotion of conversational-prayer to make and keep that connection produces the chain of events we desire by the powerful means of the Spirit.  Our “might and power” must be replaced with “by My Spirit” if we want any fruit – “apart from me you can do nothing” because “the flesh is useless.”  Only genuinely knowing the Lord can renew us daily or transform us into His image and keep us from being deceived – because we know Christ’s voice we will not follow a stranger!  We can only fight fire with “the living water” of the Holy Spirit, which gives us prophetic-rhema words, not gramma letters in more graphe scriptures!  Everything comes to us through prayer!  There are no shortcuts via book learning!

Bible study to know God is just another false religious “tradition of men”

Please follow the BLOG Etiquette to stay on topic and pass the moderator’s check.  Bold, underlined text below = future links to the BLOG pages.

Many assume “The Truth” we are to know is Bible Info. The Greek text and more accurate translations prove that the King James Version’s “Study to shew thyself an approved workman of God” (a) to be false and misleading, because spoudazo means “to use speed or be prompt; make effort or be earnest, diligent, or zealous,” which has nothing to do with reading, analyzing, or remembering bible verses!  Paul also warns of people “always learning but never able to arrive at a knowledge of The Truth” (b).  The scribes and Pharisees were expert bible students, but look what Jesus said of them:  “You diligently search/study (f) the scriptures (g) because you suppose (h) that in them you will lay hold of zoe genuine-life everlasting, but instead it is they that bear witness of Me, yet you refuse to COME TO ME that you may have zoe genuine-life” (c).  In fact, their tables for rolling out their scrolls to compare and study them had become a “snare, trap, and stumbling block” and God had cursed their efforts with a “retribution” – God’s payback for all that bible study was “bent backs forever” (d) – see New Covenant Ways – BT17!  That’s why Paul rhetorically asks about who really was in the Church:  “Where is the wise one?  Where is the scribe?  Where is the debater of this age?  Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world” (e)?  <Notes> a) 2 Timothy 2:15, b) 2 Timothy 3:7, c) John 5:39-40, d) Romans 11:7-10 quoting Isaiah 28:13, e) 1 Corinthians 1:20, f) ereunao:  diligently search, inquire, seek, examine, or investigate to know, g) the bible of their day, h) dokeo:  have the opinion of, seem to think, suppose what seems to be, subjective mental estimate estimate, which directly reflects the personal values of the person making this subjective judgment call.  In other words, it may not be the truth at all!

The New Covenant Way to God and worshipping Him is absolutely NOT more “WHATS” to learn, but the “WHO” of Jesus Christ to surrender control of ourselves to in order to genuinely, experientially, relationally epiginosko know.  After all, it was Jesus who said, “I AM the Way” (a), and His followers were originally called “people of The Way” (b) before first derogatorily (c) being called “Christians” in Antioch (d). <Notes> a) John 14:6, b) Acts 9:2, 19:9, 19:23, 24:14, 22, c) we know from Roman records, d) Acts 11:26.

The term nepios forlittle child” that Jesus says we should become like (a) refers to “infants, untaught and un-skilled minors.”  Furthermore, the term paidion for “little children” (b) refers to “a childling, and infant or half-grown boy or girl.”  These “little children,” who we are to be like, weren’t learning about God by reading, studying, and memorizing bible verses!  Being “taught directly by God” is the key!  If we “are actually, ongoingly being taught by God, we have absolutely no need that someone should write to us or to teach us, [especially] to unconditionally-love one another” (c)! <Notes> a) Matthew 11:25, 21:16; Luke 10:21, b) Matthew 18:2-5, 19:13-14, Mark 9:36-37, 10:13-16, Luke 9:46-48, 18:15-17, cf. Hebrews 2:14, 11:23, c) 1 Thessalonians 4:9, 1 John 2:20, 27.

As Christian musicians, shouldn’t we then shun religious advice on “WHAT to study diligently of” and even to “WHAT to practice harder on” (a) to be more prepared FOR God to use us, and instead become more like “little children” who surrender ourselves to knowing WHO the Lord is by being relentlessly devoted to conversational-prayer just like the early Christians were (b)?  The “ministry of the word” and “apostle’s teaching” they were also devoted to was absolutely NOT the study of bible verses, because the Greek and context clearly refers instead to akouo listening to the logos gospel message of The Truth of Jesus Christ, even as Jesus was prophetically telling the disciples where to go, and preaching or proclaiming it (c) – there was no writing or reading involved!  <Notes> a) perfecting our “might and power”, b) Acts 2:42, 6:4; 1 Corinthians 7:5, c) Acts 8:25, 15:7; Ephesians 1:13; Colossians 1:5; 1 Thessalonians 1:5.
