That’s the question the jailer asked the Apostle Paul in Acts 16:25-31, “About midnight Paul and Silas were proseuchomai conversationally-praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were unfastened. When the Philippian jailer woke and saw that the prison doors were open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. But Paul cried with a loud voice, ‘Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.’ And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas. Then he brought them out and said, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ And they said, ‘Have trusting-relying-faith in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.’”
God’s Big-Picture Master Plan for saving mankind from their sins has been laid out in detail for more than 5000 years through His chosen people Israel – He would save His people through their Savior, the Messiah. To “sin” simply means to “fall short of the mark, as an arrow falls short of a target,” and here “the mark” is the glorious character of God Himself, who only dwells in physical and morally pure light, where there can be NO physical or moral darkness. None of us could be in God’s presence! The Messiah came as the God-become-man Yeshua in Hebrew or Jesus in Greek/English as was foretold by over 300 OT prophecies about Jesus. He told everybody that there is only ONE way to God and that “Way” was through Him, saying: “I am the Way, The Truth, and the Life – NO one comes to the Father but through Me” (a). He essentially said that without Him, all of us will die in our failings, face the just and righteous judgment of God, and suffer in great darkness and torment, separated from all that is God – light, unconditional-love, joy, peace, contentment, and all that truly defines zoe genuine-life. Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again [or from above by the Holy Spirit] he cannot [physically or mentally] see the Kingdom of God. . . Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again [from above by the Holy Spirit]’” (b). It never was God’s plan for anybody to suffer – this “place of separation” was prepared for His adversary, Lucifer called Satan or the devil and the other fallen angels who rebelled against God. However, God can’t stop you from going there yourself in your desire to separate yourself from God and follow the ways of Lucifer. However, God has provided “the Way” of escape! <Notes> a) John 14:6, b) John 3:3, 7.
He has promised all of us a whole new life! His Holy Spirit will come into us when we surrender control of our lives to Him and ask Jesus, the Messiah and Owner-Master, to take over and come into our lives to save us from eternal separation/death and to bring reconciling peace between us and God. Then God’s life will be in us and then our lives will start changing. His Holy Spirit will grow us up more and more like Him everyday until we go to be with Him, but when it’s time we will face death with anticipation and great joy instead of fearing a terrible, horrifying separation from God and all that is zoe genuine life everlasting.
It would be the saddest thing for any of us to not be with the Lord who makes all of life worth living. Anything we have truly enjoyed down here is because He’s the source of all light, life, and goodness. After we die, we will either have a WHOLE LOT more of what made life here so good, or we will have NONE of it, and all that’s left is all the bad, wicked stuff – selfishness, loneliness, hate, hurt, pain, crime, anger, theft, resentfulness, etc…. all the bad stuff we’ve all seen people do and a WHOLE LOT more of it! Don’t go to that horrifying place, but trust Jesus as your Owner-Master and Savior – and embrace His plan for your life.
