The first sermon for the Church Age tells us how to be Saved:
In the BLOGs below you will see that the entire Triune God is involved in the initial deposit of the Holy Spirit and subsequent grace-gifts given to a person upon their salvation. The early Church believed and expected the initial deposit of the indwelling Holy Spirit, the initial Filling of the Holy Spirit or Spirit-Baptism, and the subsequent grace-gifts of the Holy Spirit to ALL be given during a Christian’s water-baptism because they believed there was only “One Baptism” for salvation (a), which was always understood from the definition of baptizo and the Jewish Mikvah to be “an immersion that changed the very nature of the subject being immersed, like a cucumber in vinegar becoming a pickle.” Signs & wonders as “demonstrable proofs” (b) including miracles and healings that confirmed the preached gospel logos message (c). In the modern Church, I fear many people have just performed a ritual, a “form of godliness but denied its real enabling-power” (d) and so their preaching is also powerless – see Salvation, Spirit-Baptism, Grace-Gifts, and Signs & Wonders pages. <Notes> a) Ephesians 4:5, b) 1 Corinthians 2:4, c) Mark 16:17-20, d) 2 Timothy 3:5.
For a long time I didn’t know much about water-baptism other than what the Church of Christ taught me, that it was only “an act of obedience to be saved,” and I had received no teaching about the Holy Spirit. However, I distinctly remember my water-baptism in September of 1980 when I was 20 years old, because as unemotional as I am – priding myself to be like Spock of Star Trek – when I came up out of the waters, I distinctly felt a huge physical weight lift off me that I couldn’t explain, and I burst out in a flood of tears, full of unconditional-love and joy from seemingly nowhere! It was absolutely other-worldly! Other experiences came later: Spirit-Baptism-BT1: My own Spirit-baptism or “filling” experiences. Since then, as you can see below, I’ve learned much more to pass on to you to start the conversation. Please add your comments below to helps others learn also.
