The entire Triune God is involved in the initial deposit of the Holy Spirit and subsequent grace-gifts given to a person upon their salvation.  The early Church believed and expected the initial deposit of the indwelling Holy Spirit, the Spirit-baptism, and the subsequent grace-gifts of the Spirit to ALL be given during a Christian’s water-baptism, an immersion that changed the very nature of the person!  In the modern Church, I fear many people have just performed a ritual, a “form of godliness but denied its real enabling-power” (a) – see Salvation, Spirit-Baptized, and Grace-Gifts pages. <Notes> a) 2 Timothy 3:5.

I distinctly remember my water-baptism in September of 1980 when I was 20 years old, because as unemotional as I am – priding myself to be like Spock – when I came up out of the waters, I distinctly felt a huge physical weight lift off me that I couldn’t explain, and I burst out in a flood of tears, full of unconditional-love and joy from seemingly nowhere!  It was absolutely other-worldly!  The NT also struggles to find the right words for the diversity of the Spirit’s manifestations, the seemingly limitless expressions of Him to us with His various grace-gifts to us, His various services through us to others, and His various energized effects on others that included miracles and healing.  Can you really put God in a box?
