Jesus rejected the traditional rabbinic training method for disciple-making through study and debate of scripture and the writings of other rabbis (Oral Tradition), instead saying:  “My yoke (a) is ongoingly well-fitted (b) and/coupled My burden (c) [ongoingly, actually] is light (d)” (e).  This approach is made just right for little children that can’t read or remember to do much!  Little children are made just right for the “One Master-Leader-Teacher” Christ and the One Teacher Holy Spirit of Christ (f) who would “guide them into all The Truth” (g) and “teach them all things” (h).  This is “the Spirit of The Truth” [Jesus Christ, John 14:6] (i), for “you’ll ongoingly have-to-hold [the] anointing out-from the Holy One (Jesus Christ) and/coupled/subsequently you’all have already [with ongoing effects] eido mentally ‘see’ to perceive/know ALL things . . . that ongoingly abides/remains-connected in you and/subsequently you have absolutely-in-fact-NO need that anyone should teach you, for His anointing actually, ongoingly teaches you about ALL things, is trustworthy and can’t lie, just as it (the anointing) has already taught you to remain in Christ” (j).

<Notes> a) a training harness between animals where the novice was trained by experienced animal like with oxen to plow a straight line, b) chrestos:  well-fitted, so not harsh or abrasive or constrictive, but suitable/serviceable to the task, thus useful, beneficial, pleasantly-kind – it’s tailor made instead of 1-size ‘fits’ all, c) context:  load of dogma, commandments, rules, etc. that rabbis “bound” to the backs of people, d) elaphros:  light in weight, as a feather or wind-blown clouds, e) Matthew 11:30, f) Matthew 23:8 – see Teach One Another – BT10, g) John 16:13, h) John 14:26, i) John 14:17, 15:26, 16:13, 1 John 4:6, j) 1 John 2:20, 27.

Paul tells us the process of how Christians were to have “learned (a) Christ” – “1) You have already heard about Him (b), 2) and were already taught by-the-means-of Him, inasmuch (c) The Truth is IN-the-location-of Jesus” (d), who said “I am The Truth” in John 14:6.  Paul is saying that he may have preached the gospel, but it was definitely Jesus that personally taught them the following:  “1) to have apotithemi ‘set/place away from’ your old self (e), which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and 2) to be ongoingly renewed [by going to a next-in-time higher stage of growth] [by-the-means-of] the Spirit of/belonging-to your minds, and 3) to [definitively/wholly] enduo ‘put on yourself the clothes of’ the kainos completely-different-in-kind new self (f), created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”  If we don’t listen to Christ directly teach us by His Holy Spirit, there is just no chance for His “righteousness and holiness.”  It’s that simple! <Notes> a) manthano: been informed of, come to understand, became knowledgeable of essential information, b) likely from Paul’s preaching, c) just as, to the degree that, d) Ephesians 4:20-24, e) in water-baptism per Romans 6:6, cf. Colossians 3:9, f) after the old self was crucified/passed-away per 2 Romans 6:4, Corinthians 5:17, Colossians 3:10.

Therefore, the only universal spiritual “devotions” for Christians not directly involving the 12 apostles in the 1st century that are left standing for us in the 21st century are:  to God (a), to Christian koinonia fellowship and/coupled the breaking of bread together (b), to the service of the saints (c), to every good work in Christ (d), but clearly the most references are to devotion to proseuche conversational-prayer (e).  It’s obvious what the emphasis of our “devotion” should be to – proseuche conversational-prayer, which is waiting, watching, and listening for the Lord to speak directly-spoken/heard prophetic rhema words!  It’s not about “WHAT you know but WHO you know.”  Isn’t it strange that the modern Church doesn’t have the same priorities? <Notes> a) Matthew 6:24; Luke 16:13, b) their “love feasts” and “remembrance of the Lord’s sacrifice” – Acts 2:42, 46, 20:7; Jude 1:12; 1 Corinthians 10:16, c) 1 Corinthians 16:15, d) 1 Timothy 5:10, e) Luke 11:5-9, 18:1, 21:36; Acts 1:14, 2:42, 6:4; Romans 12:12; 1 Corinthians 7:5; 1 Thessalonians 5:17; Ephesians 6:18; Colossians 4:2.

The Truth” in the NT is absolutely NOT more scriptural knowledge “WHATs” to know about, but Jesus WHO to personally know, who is the aletheia “actual absolute reality or expression” of God.  “The Truth” about God “is in-the-location-of/by-the-means-of/with-the-company-of Jesus” (a), precisely because “Jesus is The Truth” (b), just as “The Spirit of Christ is The Truth” (c).  “The Truth that shall actually set you free [from the slavery of sin]” in John 8:31-32 that Jesus speaks of isn’t His teachings or OT graphe scripture or any future NT gramma writings, but Jesus in v. 36 that it is: “The Son sets you free.”  In referring to Christ’s arrival, John 1:14-17 contrasts “The Torah Law of conditional-favor given thru-the-realizing-channel-of Moses, but The Unconditional-Loving-Favor-of-Grace and/coupled The Truth came into existence thru-the-realizing-channel-of Jesus Christ.”  <Notes> a) Ephesians 4:21, b) John 14:6, c) 1 John 5:6; Romans 8:9; 1 Peter 1:11; 2 Corinthians 3:18.

Grace and Truth are personified as Jesus!  Learning more about Jesus through OT prophecies, NT writings, or reading extra-biblical sources can only make you a fan, but like baseball fans who know all the stats about a player, these fans won’t ever really know their hero until they have had many direct, one-on-one, personal conversations with them.  So it is with Jesus! As Christian musicians, you really can’t play anointed, prophetic, and even spontaneous music until you do, and have surrendered control to Him by letting Him play His music through you.  And this takes a very real personal relationship of trusting-relying-faith.

Consequently, there is so much written in the NT about COMING TO the “WHO” of JESUS through routine, devoted, waiting, watching, listening proseuche conversational-prayer, even by His Spirit’s help (a), even by tongues as opposed to only by the understanding of your own mind (b), as many today have sadly settled with.  Proseuche conversational-prayer is different than simply giving God our list of petitions or deesis supplications (c), though this is also important, especially for routinely, habitually, perseveringly, asking/requiring for the good grace-gift of the Holy Spirit for God’s kingdom to come and His will to actually be done (d).  <Notes> a) Romans 8:26, b) 1 Thessalonians 5:17; 1 Corinthians 14:13-15; Matthew 6:9; Luke 11:2, c) Ephesians 6:18; Philippians 4:6; 1 Timothy 2:1, d) Luke 11:1-13.

Reflections:

As Christian musicians, proseuche conversational-prayer in koinonia fellowship with the Lord is really the key for a musician wanting to hear by the Spirit how to co-create anointed, prophetic, and even spontaneous music!  You can’t give out through your playing what you haven’t received.  You can try to fake it “in the flesh” with your own “might and power,” but it won’t be real – you know it and God knows it!  Jesus stated in John 17:3:  “Zoe genuine-life only comes by experientially, relationally ginosko knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ who He sent.”  Our focus must not be on “WHAT notes to play FOR God” but on “WHO is playing them” – just us or the Lord through us?

Spiritual Education, Knowledge of God and His Will, Jesus taught disciples differently than all other rabbis, Jesus didn’t use writings to teach disciples, bible writings was NOT God’s idea, The Spirit of Christ teaches disciples directly just as Jesus did, The anointing of the Spirit teaches us all things, No teachers needed if we have the anointing, We learn Christ by direct connection to the Vine by the Spirit, Righteousness & holiness comes from learning from the Voice of Christ, Conversational-prayer to learn from God is the only Devotion strongly urged by the imperative, Grace and Truth are theological concepts to study but Jesus Christ to personally know, We can’t have genuine life or learn about God unless we intimately Come Near/Beside Jesus
