The gramma writings of God as the logos “Word of God”

The problem with thinking that the Torah/Nomos “Law” only refers to the 5 books of Moses is that the “if – then” conditional-favor-of-God that is based on human merit that is the format over every commandment, is actually prevalent throughout the 97.4% of OT gramma writings – see Logos Word of God – BT5a, whereas the other 600 verses are prophecies of Jesus and His completely-different-in-kind New Covenant. That’s why the Jews then and now consider the entire OT scripture as “old covenant Law,” and happily include their Oral Torah “Traditions of the Elders” in there as well!
1A. The Greek word gramma for ‘alphabetic letter or a writing of these” in the singular without the definite article is used in Romans 2:29 of the OT Law commandment to be circumcised but from Romans 2:27 use with the definite article there is no need in v. 29 to repeat the article for specificity. However, in Romans 7:6 it is used in context of the entire OT Law of commandments by which Jews serve God, so again specificity wasn’t needed.
1B. In the singular form with the definite article it is used in Romans 2:27 to refer to the entire OT Law. In 2 Corinthians 3:6 it refers to the entire old covenant or Law – see below for plural use.
2A. The Greek word gramma for ‘alphabetic letter or a writing of these” in the plural without the article it is used of the all the words inscribed on Christ’s cross title plate in Luke 23:38. In John 5:47 it refers to all the writings of Moses, the Pentateuch or first 5 books of the OT. In John 7:15 it refers to the great learning of writings that Jesus appeared to have had. Likewise, this is the meaning of Acts 26:24 of Paul. In Acts 28:21 it refers to no written reports from Judea warning the Gentile churches about Paul. In 2 Corinthians 3:7 it refers to the alphabetic letters carved in stone for the 10 commandments, making up the core of The singular old covenant Law spoken of in verse 6 in the singular as stated above. In Galatians 6:11 it refers to the alphabetic letters of Paul’s writings to prove author authenticity.
2B. In the plural form with the definite article it is used in Luke 16:6-7 of specific bills of specific good purchased. In 2 Timothy 3:15 it refers to a specific ‘portion of’ Jewish writings that Timothy had been taught from childhood, which were the ones that made him wise unto salvation in Jesus Christ. These only make up 2.6% of the OT Scripture – see Logos Word of God – BT6. That’s all that was used in the early NT Jewish-Christian church to convert Jews and encourage lapsing Jewish-Christians not to go back to the Law. The plural use of gramma with the definite article ta is repeated as “ta the-ones” in the next phrase so both refer to a specific group of writings. Since the definite article ta was already used twice for a specific group of Messianic salvation writings in 2 Timothy 3:15 and Paul is relating this to “pas graphe” scripture in v. 3:16, as is common in Greek, and certainly Paul’s Greek where he routinely leaves word out (called ellipsis), this subsequent reference to the same group or ‘portion of’ scripture does NOT need the definite article ta to still be referring to the same specific group. Thus vv. 3:15-16 are referring to the same specific group of Messianic salvation writings of the OT. It is incorrect to believe Paul is referring to ‘the whole of’ OT scripture – see Logos Word of God – BT7.
However the NT says concerning “true Israel” that “a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the means of the Spirit, absolutely in fact not by the gramma letter” (a) and concerning NT ministry: “God, who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a completely-different-in-kind New Covenant (b), absolutely in fact not of the gramma letter but of the Spirit. For the gramma letter kills (c), but the Spirit gives zoe genuine-life. Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone (d) came with glory . . . will not the ministry of the [Holy] Spirit have even more glory? For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation (d), the ministry of righteousness [by the Spirit] must far exceed it in glory” (e), and “But now we are released from the Law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we minister by the means of the completely-different-in-kind New (b) Way of the Spirit and not in the palaiotes old/antiquated/worn-out/useless/obsolete way of the gramma letter” (f). Why in the world are any Christians having anything to do with the obsolete OT writings of the Law when they have the Spirit now? <Notes> a) Romans 2:29, 9:6-7; Galatians 3:7, 29; Philippians 3:3, b) chadash, kainos: fresh, completely-different-in-kind, unprecedented, sharing nothing with its predecessors, unique, and superior, c) remember that 97.4% of the OT is Law-based that “kills” – it’s a veritable mine-field, d) 10 commandments later expanded to 613 on to scrolls by Moses in the Torah. Can you believe many Christians want us all to post and religiously follow the 10 commandments?, e) 2 Corinthians 3:6-9, f) Romans 7:6.
Jesus accused the bible students of His day called “Pharisees and scribes” of proverbially “analyzing the bark on a tree” for so long they they completely “missed the forest through the trees” (), especially “supposing that in/by/with the graphe scriptures you will take hold of zoe genuine-life everlasting, but they testify of Me and yet you ongoingly refuse to come to Me to have that zoe genuine-life (b). They would rather have a book than the person it pointed to! <Notes> a) Matthew 15:1-6; Mark 7:8-13, b) John 5:38-39.
That’s why we will see that the NT writers were very careful in their use of the OT scripture, restricting it mostly to Messianic prophetic ‘portions of’ graphe scripture or the “gramma letters which are able to give you (a) wisdom for salvation through trusting-relying-faith in Christ Jesus” – this is what Paul is referring to in the next verse when he says to Timothy as an evangelist-in-training: “pas scripture, [the singular ‘portion’ that is the] God-breathed-kind kai [is linked] profitable-kind for instruction . . . ” (b), where pas is always defined by context. Usually it doesn’t mean “the whole of,” but like it does here based on verse 15, it’s the God-breathed-prophetic-rhema ‘portion of’ the graphe scripture that is in mind here, particularly Messianic and New Covenant portions that led Jews to saving faith in Christ. We will explore this more in a few more BLOGS. <Notes> a) Jews like Timothy during his “rearing”, b) 2 Timothy 3:15-16.
As Christian musicians, is being a bible student really the answer? Being a bible student didn’t work for the Jews and they practiced this for 1500 years! Why do we as Christians think we can “do the same things and expect different results?” Isn’t that the “definition of insanity” according to Einstein? Are we just killing ourselves and others with that “ministry of condemnation and death” when teach these kinds of logos messages to others, which is 97.4 of the OT? Are we also at risk of “missing the forest through the trees” and missing out on zoe genuine-life? Or will we be “ministers of a completely-different-in-kind, unprecedented, unique New Covenant” of the righteousness that is through trusting-relying-faith in Christ by unconditional-favor-of-Grace instead of conditional-favor-of-Law” with different logos messages about the enabling-power of the Holy Spirit that gives zoe genuine-life?
Lord, keep us from being so easily distracted by 97.4% of the OT that is mine-field of condemnation and death but keep our eyes on the promise of Christ, His Holy Spirit, and the New Covenant spoken of in only 600 verses. Lord, keep us from getting bogged down into the details and miss the whole purpose of the OT. Instead we DO come to You Jesus whom the scriptures simply testify of. Instead of teaching us like You did the Jews “by rote” like elementary children feeding on ‘the milk’ of using tablets, paper, and ink to learn their gramma letters and stoicheion ‘abc’ rudimentary principles, we are ready to feed on ‘the solid food’ of the interpreting and discerning good and evil by the means the Holy Spirit that comes through trusting-relying-faith in You Christ – see New Covenant Ways – BT16. We are ready to grow up so we can experience the zoe genuine-life You have for us!
